Будь же всегда бдителен, молись и доброе держи тщание о добром, как подобает мужественному борцу: «руки бо мужественных в прилежании» (Притч. 13, 4). Не сиди сложа руки, отлагая сшитие себе брачного хитона до того момента, когда надо будет в полном благоукрашении исходить в сретение грядущему Жениху, Христу Господу. Напоминай себе каждый день, что «ныне» в наших руках, а «завтра» в руках Божиих и что Давший тебе утро не связал Себя чрез то обещанием, что даст и вечер. Потому отнюдь не слушай диавола, когда он будет тебе нашептывать: отдай мне «ныне», а Богу отдашь «завтра». Нет, нет; все часы жизни твоей проводи так, чтоб это было благоугодно Богу, содержи в мысли, что после настоящего часа не будет тебе дано другого и что за каждую минуту сего часа ты должен будешь отдать самый подробный отчет. Помни, что цены нет тому времени, которое ты имеешь в руках своих, и что если попусту потратишь его, придет час, когда взыщешь его и не обретешь. Считай потерянным тот день, в который хоть и делал добрые дела, но не преодолевал своих худых склонностей и пожеланий.

Кончаю мои тебе об этом уроки, повторяя апостольскую заповедь: «подвизайся добрым подвигом всегда» (1Тим. 6, 12). Ибо нередко бывало, что один час ревностного труда стяжевал рай, как и напротив – один час нерадения лишал его. Будь усерден, если желаешь засвидетельствовать, сколь твердо пред Богом упование спасения твоего. «Иже бо надеется на Господа, в прилежании будет» (Притч. 28, 25).

Be always vigilant, pray, and keep the goodness of goodness, as befits a courageous fighter: “the hands of the courageous are in diligence” (Proverbs 13, 4). No no; spend all the hours of your life so that it is pleasing to God, keep in mind that after the present hour no other will be given to you and that for every minute of this hour you will have to give the most detailed report. Remember that there is no price for the time that you have in your own hands, and that if you spend it in vain, the time will come when you will seek it and not find it. Consider lost the day on which, although he did good deeds, he did not overcome his thin inclinations and wishes.

I conclude my lessons about this for you by repeating the apostolic commandment: “Fight with good deed always” (1 Tim. 6, 12). For it often happened that one hour of zealous work conquered paradise, and vice versa - one hour of negligence deprived him. Be diligent if you want to testify how firmly before God is the hope of your salvation. “Even though he trusts in the Lord, he will be in diligence” (Proverbs 28, 25).
