Сердце обнищавшее, лишенное благодати, а значит, и силы, подвластно телу и исполняет его хотения и желания.
Укрепить свое сердце, наполнив его благодатью, и одолеть, подчинить тело сердечным стремлениям и намерениям — вот задача. Поставить сердце во главу, сделать его владыкою всего существа и отдать его в подчинение Христу за ту милость и благодать, которою Господь и укрепил и обновил это сердце.

Через восхождение, погружение ума, соединенного с чувством, в слово молитвы, входим в Царство Небесное, которое внутри нас. Там Царство Духа, там наш дом родной, в который вселяется смиренная и умиленная душа, дивясь непрестанной милости Божией, покрывающей ее нищету и греховность.

Что легче? Терпеть голод в желудке или совесть, оскверненную чревоугодием? Что легче? Терпеть тяготу данного послушания или тяготу совести, оскверненной саможалением, самолюбием и как следствие — отказом от послушания?
Всюду труд, всюду терпение, всюду тягота жизни. Но в одном случае помогает Господь, а в другом отступает. В одном случае иго Господне, а в другом — иго диавола. Господь не отнял окончательно наказания за грех — тягота жизни осталась, но жизнь преобразилась в Духе. Дух этот дается несущим иго Христово, выбирающим исполнение заповедей Божиих, а не служение плоти и крови. Господи, даждь ми силу избирать во всем иго Твое благое.
