Странно видеть в себе готовность к совершению любого самого тяжкого греха. Это бездна, это адская пропасть, это вечная мука и смерть.
И вижу, и знаю, если только буду поставлен в тяжелые условия выбора между верностью Господу и предательством Его, то буду предателем. А, значит, я и сейчас предатель, если в моей воле живет готовность на предательство.
Живу и верность соблюдаю только внешне, по милости Божией, но Господь видит немощь мою и не попускает обстоятельств и тяготы выше моей меры.
От тайных моих очисти мя, Господи!
Видеть это надо всегда и непрестанно взывать о помощи, о помиловании.
Господи, помилуй мя, грешнаго.

Как пленник связан веревками и лишен свободы действия, так падший человеческий ум связан мыслями лживыми, неправыми, и связано человеческое сердце желаниями похотными, нечистыми, страстными.
И как пленники бывают с различной степенью свободы действия: один заключен в оковы, другой в темницу, третий в стены тюрьмы, так и человеческое сердце и ум бывают с разной степенью истинности в мыслях и чувствах. Но пленник остается пленником, в каком бы из видов заключения он ни находился, так и падший ум и сердце остаются падшими, то есть неистинными, о чем бы они не составляли свое мнение в мыслях и чувствах.
Поэтому Господь говорит: «познайте истину, и истина сделает вас свободными», а святой Апостол: «Где Дух Господень, там свобода».

Всякое понятие, слово имеет смысл и сопряженное с этим смыслом чувство, отзвук в душе.
Грехом это единство смысла и чувства рассечено, и мы не чувствуем того, о чем говорим, и не понимаем того, что чувствуем.
Господь благодатию своею восстанавливает это единство, врачует эту неисцельную рану. Но все это происходит так, как будто мы снова начинаем учиться ходить. Все ново, все необычно, все трудно. Все дается только опытом, только им одним. Иначе как научиться ходить? Значит, все в исполнении заповедей Божиих.

It is strange to see in ourselves a willingness to commit any most serious sin. This is the abyss, this is the hellish abyss, this is eternal torment and death.
And I see, and I know, if I am put in difficult conditions of a choice between fidelity to the Lord and His betrayal, I will be a traitor. And that means that I’m a traitor now, if willingness to betray lives in my will.
I live and observe loyalty only externally, by the grace of God, but the Lord sees my weakness and does not allow circumstances and burdens beyond my measure.
Cleanse me from my secrets, Lord!
To see this one must always and ceaselessly cry for help, for mercy.
Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Just as a captive is bound by ropes and deprived of freedom of action, so a fallen human mind is bound by false, wrong thoughts, and the human heart is bound by desires lustful, unclean, passionate.
And just as prisoners are with varying degrees of freedom of action: one is imprisoned, the other in prison, the third in prison walls, so the human heart and mind are with varying degrees of truth in thoughts and feelings. But the captive remains a captive, no matter what type of conclusion he is in, the fallen mind and heart remain fallen, that is, untrue, no matter what they form their opinion in thoughts and feelings.
Therefore, the Lord says: “Know the truth, and the truth will set you free,” and the holy Apostle: “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

Every concept, word has a meaning and a feeling associated with this meaning, an echo in the soul.
By sin, this unity of meaning and feeling is dissected, and we do not feel what we are talking about and do not understand what we feel.
The Lord, through His grace, restores this unity, heals this incurable wound. But all this happens as if we are starting to learn to walk again. Everything is new, everything is unusual, everything is difficult. Everything is given only by experience, by only one of them. Otherwise, how to learn to walk? So, everything is in the fulfillment of God's commandments.
