Одним из признаков наступающего конца должно стать «исчезновение границ», исследователи связывают это пророчество с наступлением эры интернета. Помимо этого, перед Рагнареком «из глубины должен подняться морской змей Ермунганд», это знамение связывают с появлением необычно больших экземпляров рыбы-ремень (Regalecidae) у побережья Калифорнии.
