Протащилась тут от норвежского словообразования, в частности, от слов, обозначающих семейные связи.
В норвежском есть общие обозначения для бабушки и дедушки – bestemor и bestefar соответственно (mor и far – "мама" и "папа"). А вот разделение по отцовской/материнской линиям происходит так:
Mormor – бабушка по материнской линии, буквально "мамина мама", а по отцовской – farmor ("папина мама"). И наоборот: farfar – дедушка по отцовской линии, morfar – по материнской. Главное, не запутаться! Вначале идет указание на линию родства.
Внуки тоже будут забавно: barnebarna - буквально "дети детей".
