Заметили, что в последнее время всем, почти без исключения, российским ВУЗам стали давать имена. Типа университет им. Петра Великого, Александра I, Ломоносова, Менделеева и пр. Объяснить я могу это так: любое название вуза в виде аббревиатуры представляет собой абракадабру для простого обывателя (читай - родственников и друзей студента), а вузов с подобной же специализацией много.... Поэтому обычного названия (типа Ярославский физико-математический институт) недостаточно, т.к. обывательский спрос требует имя-цеплялку и тут как нельзя кстати приходятся упомянутые чуть выше исторические личности, пусть даже имеющее самое опосредованное отношение к учебным заведениям названным волею судеб их именами
