Валаамский дом инвалидов
После Великой Отечественной войны на улицах городов СССР появилось огромное число инвалидов, которые просили милостыню. Большинство из этих людей, спасших страну, остались без крова, выживали на крошечную пенсию, так как работать по причине инвалидности просто не могли. Советское правительство приняло решение очистить города от этих "пережитков" прошлого, чтобы больные и увечные не омрачали взор народу-победителю. За одну ночь наряды милиции в крупных населенных пунктах собрали всех ночевавших на улицах, вокзалах, в подвалах калек и вывезли их к специальным прицепным вагонам поездов. Самый крупный дом для инвалидов, куда отправили первую партию в 500 человек, было решено открыть в бывшем монастыре на острове Валаам.
В конце 80-х тогда ещё малоизвестный художник Геннадий Добров выставляет целую галерею графических портретов искалеченных фронтовиков, и его работы совершенно ошеломляют зрителей. В искусстве эти закрытые, запретные темы ни тогда, ни потом не поднимал никто. Он передал всю горечь и страдания ветеранов, обреченных доживать свои дни в жутких условиях тесноты и антисанитарии. День и ночь проходят ровной
чередой, а ты не видишь,
как безмолвно я страдаю
и не жалуюсь ничуть.
Было время: я подняться
думал вверх струёй фонтанной.
Но, поднявшись до вершины,
низвергался с высоты.
Я сказать тебе не смею
(да и чем ты мне поможешь?)
и, томяся неисцельно,
я стараюсь хоть заснуть.
И душа полна тоскою
(не понять тебе усопших!),
смерть повила взор печальный –
чёрным крепом мнe глаза.
Близка гибель, – Бог далече,
и Ему душой молиться
я не смею, я не в силах,
и молчу, потупя взор.
Ты же, кроткий, агнец Божий,
помолись хоть ты, коль можешь,
помолись в смиреньи чистом
за томящихся душой.

Valaam House of Disabled
After the Great Patriotic War, a huge number of disabled people appeared on the streets of the cities of the USSR who asked for alms. Most of these people who saved the country were left homeless, survived on a tiny pension, because they simply could not work due to disability. The Soviet government decided to cleanse the cities of these "remnants" of the past so that the sick and crippled do not obscure the eyes of the victorious people. For one night, police detachments in large settlements gathered all those who slept on the streets, stations, cripples in the basements and took them to special trailed train cars. The largest house for the disabled, where the first batch of 500 people were sent, it was decided to open in a former monastery on the island of Valaam.
In the late 80s, the then still little-known artist Gennady Dobrov exhibited a whole gallery of graphic portraits of mutilated front-line soldiers, and his work completely stunned the audience. In art, these closed, forbidden topics were neither raised nor then raised by anyone. He conveyed all the bitterness and suffering of the veterans, doomed to live out their days in the terrible conditions of cramped and unsanitary conditions. It is impossible to look into their eyes without tears ... (c)

how silently I suffer
and I’m not complaining at all.
There was a time: I rise
I thought up a stream of fountain.
But rising to the top,
plunged from a height.
I dare not tell you
(and how will you help me?)
and languishing inconsolably,
I try to sleep at least.
And the soul is full of longing
(do not understand the dead!)
death looked sad -
black crepe my eyes.
Death is near - God is farther
and pray to His soul
I don’t dare, I can’t
and keep quiet, looking down.
You meek, lamb of God
at least pray if you can
pray in a pure humility
for languishing souls.
