В своём письме от 31 июля 1945 г. он писал об этом архиепископу Пекинскому Виктору (Святину): «Ввиду отсутствия сведений о Заграничном Синоде в течение ряда лет, иное решение нашей епархии сделало бы ее совершенно независимой, автокефальной епархией. Канонических условий для такой независимости не имеется, так как сомнений в законности... признанного Патриарха не имеется. Отношения с той церковной властью также делаются возможными, так что неприменим Указ от 7 ноября 1920 г… Возношение имени Председателя Заграничного Синода пока должно быть сохранено... Возношение же имени Патриарха... необходимо Вашим Указом ввести безотлагательно во всей епархии”. И сам святитель Иоанн издал указ о поминании Патриарха Алексия во время богослужения (Указ №650 от 6 сентября/24 августа 1945 года)."
