I went to rest in Cyprus, very little, but talked with the local Greeks and listened to their stories about the Turkish annexation of half of the island. The story goes something like this:

Cyprus used to be an English colony, but England decided that it did not need it entirely and gave it autonomy. The population there then consisted of 80% of the Greeks and 20% of the Turks, therefore, three countries were appointed "guarantors of the constitution": England, Greece and Turkey. Quarrels between the Greeks and Turks periodically occurred and in 1974 the Greeks staged just a small coup d'etat. They did not even kill the incumbent president - he managed to escape. And these bad Turks took and sent troops! Terrible aggressors drove all the Greeks south, and they themselves occupied about 30% of the area and now live there! Cruel barbarians!

In general, I was a little surprised.
