Какие страшные слова: «охладеет любовь». Это все равно, что сказать: жизнь будет умирать. Это все равно, что сказать «мерзость запустения будет на месте святе». Быть христианином значит быть любящим человеком. Где любовь в мире? В Церкви Христовой. Если в Церкви нет любви, то в мире ее быть не может. Поэтому сегодняшний суд над Церковью, прежде чем Церковь, каждый из нас станет перед Крестом Христовым, заключается в нашем испытании себя, имеем ли мы эту любовь. Разумеется, мы не достигаем того, что говорит нам слово Божие о любви как о союзе совершенства, как о благодати, всегда живущей в сердцах наших. Однако мы не можем жить, не устремляясь к любви. Только благодаря этому мы живы, и благодаря этому жив мир. Если мы перестанем стремиться к любви, то свет, который в мире, то есть Церковь Божия, станет тьмою, и какова будет в мире тьма?
Но и в мире, даже не знающем Бога, человеческая любовь присутствует всегда как остаточный свет, как то, благодаря чему человек еще существует. Где прежде всего существует этот остаточный свет? В семье. Однако на наших глазах сегодня все делается для разрушения семьи и весьма успешно, как мы видим. А где еще проявляется человеческая любовь? Там, где самые сокровенные и возвышенные отношения между мужчиной и женщиной. Что же происходит сейчас? То, что раньше называли судьбой, мечтой о суженом, теперь все чаще вытесняется легкозаменимым, как они говорят, партнерством. Наконец, дети. Там, где дети, невозможно, чтобы не было любви. Кто не любит детей, у того душа опасно больна, смертельно больна. Но теперь это массовое явление. Все чаще у нас к детям относятся просто как к помехе. Мы прекрасно знаем, что миллионы детей убивают прежде рождения и растлевают чуть ли не с самого рождения. Лжепророки СМИ денно-нощной пропагандой нелюбви не оставляют камня на камне от того, что является основанием человеческой жизни.
Господь говорит нам сегодня о том, что среди этого ужаса и «мерзости запустения на месте святе», не только в Церкви, где охладевает любовь, но во всем роде человеческом, «претерпевый до конца, той спасется». Мы должны до конца претерпеть — не только среди гонений и тюрем, не только на одре тяжкой болезни. Но и тогда, когда мир с его похотью плоти занимает все — всю культуру, все школы, все улицы с гнусными рекламами греха, все дома, куда эти видимые бесы входят каждый день, и их принимают как желанных гостей. Все умы и сердца. И мы, христиане, для этого мира как бы ничто, Христос для них никто и ничто. И нас они хотят вплести в свою смрадную ткань как декоративный узор. Где хотя бы искра Божественная в жизни, осталась ли она? Поистине, охладевает любовь. Не есть ли это явное знамение конца?
Не наше дело знать времена и сроки, говорит Господь (1 Фес. 5, 1). Но наш долг, оттого что мы христиане, стоять на последних рубежах Царства Христова, где любовь — превыше всего, до конца. Везде, где она может быть еще сохранена, и в Церкви и вне Церкви, во всех человеческих отношениях. Пусть Церковь уже входит сегодня в ту тьму, которая была «от шестого часа до часа девятого» (Мф. 27, 45), однако «свет во тьме светит, и тьма не объяла Его» (Ин. 1, 5). Мы услышим эти слова в Пасхальную ночь, когда торжество зла обернется полным его поражением. И мы должны быть этим светом, если мы неложно Христовы. По слову Христа и по дару Христа мы должны быть этим светом. Бог доверяет нам быть верными Ему, и Он говорит, чтобы это слово света, которое сегодня нам предлагается, было правильно услышано.
«Охладеет во многих любовь», — говорит Господь. Но Он не говорит, что любовь охладеет во всех. В самые худшие времена, подобные тем, когда пророк Илия среди всеобщего отступничества думал, что он остался один, Господь открывает, что есть остаток, который хранит Ему верность. Когда, кажется, все мертво под снегом, мы знаем, что есть жизнь в корнях, и она процветет, как только минует зима. Когда наступит Пасха Господня, мы услышим эти слова: «Днесь весна благоухает». Эта любовь Божия, которая побеждает всю ненависть преисподней, всю злобу мира, торжествует, и мы призываемся войти в радость Господа своего.
«Претерпевый до конца, тот спасется», но только в любви. Церковь Божия устоит, но только любовью. И хотя многие соблазнятся, но всегда будут те, кто претерпит все до конца. Кто мы и где мы среди Страшного Крестного Суда Господня?

Where the most intimate and exalted relationship between a man and a woman. What is happening now? What used to be called fate, the dream of a narrowed-down, is now increasingly being supplanted by an easily replaceable, as they say, partnership. Finally, children. Where there are children, it is impossible that there is no love. Whoever does not love children, his soul is dangerously ill, mortally ill. But now this is a mass phenomenon. More and more often, we treat children simply as a hindrance. We know very well that millions of children kill before birth and molest almost from birth. False prophets of the media day and night propaganda of dislike do not leave stone unturned by what is the foundation of human life.
The Lord tells us today that in the midst of this horror and “the abomination of desolation is holy in place”, not only in the Church, where love cools, but in the whole human race, “enduring to the end, that one will be saved.” We must endure to the end - not only among persecutions and prisons, not only on the bed of a serious illness. But even then, when the world with its lust of the flesh occupies everything - all culture, all schools, all streets with vile advertisements of sin, all the houses where these visible demons enter every day, and they are received as welcome guests. All minds and hearts. And we, Christians, are nothing for this world, Christ for them is nobody and nothing. And they want to weave them into their stinking fabric as a decorative pattern. Where is even the Divine spark in life, has it remained? Truly, love cools. Is this a clear sign of the end?
It is not our business to know the times and dates, says the Lord (1 Thess. 5, 1). But our duty, because we are Christians, is to stand on the last frontiers of the Kingdom of Christ, where love is above all, to the end. Wherever it can still be preserved, both in the Church and outside the Church, in all human relations. Let the Church already enter today into that darkness, which was “from the sixth to the ninth hour” (Matthew 27, 45), but “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend Him” (John 1, 5). We will hear these words on Easter night, when the triumph of evil will turn into its complete defeat. And we must be this light if we are not Christly. According to the word of Christ and the gift of Christ, we must be this light. God trusts us to be faithful to Him, and He says that this word of light, which is offered to us today, should be heard correctly.
“Love will cool in many,” says the Lord. But He does not say that love will cool in all. In the worst of times, such as when the prophet Elijah, in the midst of universal apostasy, thought that he was left alone, the Lord reveals that there is a remnant that keeps him faithful.
