Конечно, проект скоростной ж/д Берлин-Мюнхен - имиджевый для Германии. Не зря он и называется Deutsche Einheit ("единство").
Проект сопоставим с проектом Париж-Страсбург, который был тоже, кстати, завершен не так и давно, и тоже по сути направлен на обеспечение целостности страны.
При этом при супердиких ценах на билеты заполняемость поездов полная. С учетом того, что в Германии разрешены стоячие билеты на дальнем следовании, вот еще и стоячих пассажиров море.
Стоимость за 1.5 месяца до отъезда, когда я покупал, уже была 140 евро в одну сторону (т.е. самолетом в 2-3 раза дешевле).
И все равно поезда переполнены.
Не все едут от конца до конца, но таких большинство.
И не потому, что люди таких аэрофобы. Просто поездом много комфортнее.
Есть надежда, что когда-то и в других странах поймут, что только железные дороги могут обеспечить целостность и связность внутри страны.
В России это уже поняли. Уже появляется много интересного (правда, херится тоже много, но денег на все не хватит).
Есть, правда, страны, у которых вообще нет сухопутных соседей. Вот им ничего не угрожает.
Но все равно - экономия на инфраструктуре делает очень сложным общение людей с ращных концов одной страны.
