Выпады в адрес руководства Московской области и местной организации «Единой России» связаны с тяжелой ситуацией с выборами в Подмосковье, с которой столкнулся Жириновский. «Злые языки» утверждают, что он оказался не в силах выполнить свои обещания перед некоторыми кандидатами. Лидер ЛДПР долго колебался и стал скандалить лишь после того, как получил подтверждение от своих источников, что под губернатором Подмосковья Андреем Воробьевым «шатается кресло», так как им недоволен сам Владимир Путин, а покровитель семьи Воробьевых министр обороны Сергей Шойгу не торопится его защищать. Однако «наезд» Жириновского на «Единую Россию» и на Воробьева, по мнению осведомленных людей, пока не удался, а спикер Вячеслав Володин, обещавший главе ЛДПР поддержку, не очень справился с ролью миротворца. Генсек «Единой России» Сергей Неверов пригрозил лидеру ЛДПР разбирательством в думской комиссии по этике. И в пятницу, 17‑го Жириновскому, хотя и «завуалированно», пришлось извиниться.
