Пожалуй, самым известным стал сборник фотографий Манн «Ближайшие родственники», изданный в 1992 году. В NY Times написали: «Возможно, ни один фотограф в истории не имел такого успеха в мире искусства». Книга состоит из 65 чёрно-белых фотографий троих детей фотографа в возрасте до 10 лет. Многие кадры сняты во время летнего отдыха семьи в доме у реки, где дети играли и плавали в обнажённом виде. За эти кадры в Америке и за рубежом Салли Манн обвинили в распространении детской порнографии. С горячей критикой также выступали некоторые религиозные деятели. Но были и положительные отзывы.
