В ней описана известнейшая история ухода Иакова из отчего дома, переселение его в дом дяди, Лавана, и женитьбы последовательно на двух дядиных дочерях, Лее и Рахели. Причем влюбился-то он в Рахель, и именно за неё служил будущему тестю семь лет, но был обманут и получил Лею. После чего, ещё семь лет, снова служил за Рахель, после чего смог жениться на ней.
Рахель описывается как юная, красивая и не очень счастливая, но любимая. Лея - как девушка со слабыми глазами, что бы это ни значило, и нелюбимая жена. Есть версия, что Лея была предназначена Эсаву, брату Иакова, человеку с откровенно неудачной, неправедной репутацией, и от такой перспективы выплакала все глаза. Сама по себе история очень эмоциональная и впечатляющая, и всех жалко. Или почти всех. А одна из самых загадочных и интересных вещей - как всё же строилось отношение Иакова к Лее, которая поначалу трудно переживала свою нелюбимость.
