На этот раз мое любопытство очень далеко, аж до самого Дальнего Востока. Там есть удивительный регион - Хабаровский край. Если смотреть "по бумагам", то это один из лучших регионов страны. Здесь есть замечательный Хабаровск, который регулярно признают самым благоустроенным в стране (https://rg.ru/2009/10/05/reg-dvostok/gorod-anons.html). Даже вечно бурчащий Варламов сравнил Хабаровск с Питером (https://varlamov.ru/1515945.html).
Здесь же есть много интересной работы для самых разных людей: для инженеров и рабочих - возможность делать самолеты и корабли; для ученых и преподавателей - возможность работать в вузах или одном из 12 институтов РАН (http://www.febras.ru/instituty.html). Для тех, кто предпочитает госслужбу - цельное федеральное министерство по развитию Дальнего Востока тоже здесь. А еще есть нефтянка, химия, порты - казалось бы, скажет чиновник по региональному развитию, чего еще людям надо!?

Россия, как известно, уникальная страна. Не так уж и много государств раскинулись от одного океана до другого. Поэтому добавить сравнительности в мои дилетантские регионоведческие штудии не так-то просто. И все же, пожалуй, есть регион довольно похожий на Хабаровский край. Американский Штат Вашингтон. Как и Хабаровский край он расположен на берегу Тихого океана, имеет сравнительно большую площадь (топ-10 по США против ТОП-5 по России), сравнительно небольшое население, здесь нет сверхкрупных городов. Крупнейший город штата - Сиэтл (около 700 000 человек) - расположен рядом с границей, примерно на той же широте, что и Хабаровск (около 616 000 человек). В Вашингтоне также строят корабли и самолеты. Оба региона значительно удалены от крупнейших промышленных, финансовых, политических центров своей страны (Вашингтон находится через всю страну и от Нью-Йорка, и от Вашингтона, и от Калифорнии, и от Техаса). Однако на этом сходства заканчиваются.
Давайте присмотримся, что предлагает своим жителям и внутренним (и внешним) мигрантам Вашингтон. В этом штате располагаются штаб-квартиры Amazon, Starbucks, Paccar (третий по величине производитель грузовиков в мире), Valve (разработчики DOTA-2). Подчеркиваю, это штаб-квартиры, центры принятия решений. И это далеко не все. Если же вы откроете сайты крупнейших компаний Хабаровского края, то с высокой долей вероятности это будут либо дочки каких-то компаний из других регионов, либо филиалы. Амурский судостроительный завод входит в ОСК, Комсомольский авиазавод - в ОАК, угольная ООО «Хабаровск-СУЭК» является дочерним предприятием АО « Сибирская Угольная Энергетическая Компания» (АО «СУЭК») и т.д.
В Вашингтоне находится Вашингтонский университет, который уже давно входит в ТОП-50 лучших вузов мира, а также куча вузов, входящих в топы американских рейтингов (кстати, что интересно массово открыты иезуитами). Ни один Хабаровский университет не входит даже в проект "5-100". В Вашингтоне находится Pacific Northwest National Laboratory - национальная лаборатория, один из крупнейших научных центров США с бюджетом под миллиард долларов США и 4,5 тысячами сотрудников.
Наконец, Вашингтон является, или во всяком случае недавно являлся одним из центров мировой культуры. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam - всем этим группам не пришлось покидать Сиэтл, чтобы стать иконами гранжа и определить направление мировой популярной музыки на десятилетие вперед. Столетний симфонический оркестр Seattle Symphony Orchestra, является одним из самых записываемых оркестров в мире. Театры Сиэтла являются также весьма известными. Таким образом, этот удаленный от других центров страны регион дает возможность инженерам, ITшникам, служащим, музыкантам, актерам, морякам найти работу мечты мирового уровня. Поправьте меня, если я ошибаюсь, но Хабаровск не может таким похвастаться.
Других аналогичных примеров практически нет. В Канаде промышленно, культурно и т.д. развитый Восток, уравновешен Британской Колумбией с двухмиллионым Ванкувером, столицей олимпиады, которому The Economist трижды — в 2005, 2007, 2009 годах — присваивал звание «лучшего города Земли».
В Австралии также нет понятия "Дальнего Востока", зато есть "Дальний Запад", треть страны, которая очень мало заселена и мало интересует жителей Сиднея или Кандберры. Тем не менее там есть двухмиллионный город Перт, в котором есть офисы, в том числе головные, нескольких крупных австралийских корпораций.
Возможно именно поэтому люди из края уезжают, ну, если еще не считать загаженной экологии. Как-то так.... за неимением лучшего вывода
