Всем привет, я снова здесь дабы разбавить суровые осенние будни очередным треком, и сегодня у нас в гостях Стинг, только уже как сольный исполнитель, а не участник трио "The Police", о котором некоторое время назад я уже писал.
Во время работы с "The Police" популярность Стинга росла настолько быстро, что уже очень скоро он задумался о сольной карьере и в 1984 году ушел из этого замечательного коллектива, что знаменовало собой распад "The Police".
После выпуска первого сольного альбома "The Dream of the Blue Turtles", который стал платиновым, исполнитель почти сразу приступил к созданию нового альбома, который в итоге получил название "...Nothing Like the Sun". Честно признаюсь, самый любимый альбом Стинга в моем персональном рейтинге.
Работая над этим альбомом, Стинг решил посвятить одну из песен своему другу – писателю Квентину Криспу, британской гей-иконе, с которым он познакомился на съемках фильма "Невеста". Однажды Крисп переехал из Лондона в США, на Манхэттэн, после чего друзья начали переписываться между собой и в одном из писем Крисп написал в шутку, что ждет "получения бумаг о гражданстве для того, чтобы совершить преступление, и не быть депортированным". Размышляя об этом письме, а также о жизненном кредо Квентина Криспа "Будь самим собой, несмотря на то, что говорят другие", Стинг написал текст песни "Englishman in New York".
Я думаю, слышали её все. И я думаю, что вы все удивитесь, узнав, что в родных чартах эта песня не получила высоких мест, ограничившись лишь 51-ой строчкой "UK Singles Chart" и "84-ой Billboard Hot 100". Но при этом трек пользовался оглушительной популярность во многих европейских странах, в первую очередь во Франции, Нидерландах, Бельгии и Ирландии, где он крепко удерживал лидерство в 1988 году в хит-парадах Top-20 и Top-40.

While working on this album, Sting decided to devote one of the songs to his friend, the writer Quentin Crisp, a British gay icon whom he met on the set of the film The Bride. Once Crisp moved from London to the USA, to Manhattan, after which friends began to correspond with each other and in one of his letters, Crisp wrote in jest that he was waiting for "receiving citizenship papers in order to commit a crime, and not be deported." Reflecting on this letter, as well as on Quentin Crisp's life credo “Be Yourself, Despite What Others Say,” Sting wrote the lyrics for the song “Englishman in New York”.
I think everyone heard her. And I think that you will all be surprised to learn that this song did not get high places in the native charts, limiting itself only to the 51st line of "UK Singles Chart" and "84th Billboard Hot 100". But at the same time, the track enjoyed deafening popularity in many European countries, primarily in France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland, where it firmly held the lead in 1988 in the charts Top-20 and Top-40.
