Спектакль Филиппа Григорьяна «Маяковский. Трагедия» завершает цикл «Звезда», посвященный пяти крупнейшим фигурам отечественной поэзии ХХ века. Главный герой спектакля Григорьяна – поэт Владимир Маяковский. Но не тот, чьи даты жизни и основные творческие вехи можно посмотреть в энциклопедиях, а придуманный персонаж – герой раннего футуристического текста 1913 года «Владимир Маяковский. Трагедия».
