All human history suggests that a “healthy lifestyle” is a dangerous and artificial heresy that has no analogues in the past. The ancestors did not live long, but happily, and had no idea about the level of cholesterol and the harmful properties of red meat. The Slavs, like today's Africans, ate everything that they managed to get. Fish, beef, bear meat and honey.
Then the Vikings came to Russia, who were also not particularly picky in food and quickly got along with the local Slavic population. Both of them professed extremely unhealthy diets. They ate porridge from barley with fat for the night and even washed it down with beer. Although carbonated drinks are pure poison for the body. At that time they didn’t do Nordic walking, if only on foot with shields and battle axes.
After a thousand years, little has changed either. Gogol in his Italian far nostalgically recalled cheesecakes and mutton side with buckwheat porridge; Pushkin washed down fried meatballs with cold champagne and was surprisingly indifferent to vegetarianism. Indeed, Alexander Sergeyevich died at age 37 (a boy in modern times). But not at all from gastroparesis of the stomach or acute cholecystitis. He died of blood poisoning after being wounded by a 20 gram Dantes bullet. As they say, God forbid everyone.
A healthy lifestyle was a side effect of the growing level of citizens' well-being and an increase in their amount of free time, which they used to just jam with mayonnaise and drink alcoholic drinks, and now for some reason decided to live as long as possible.
If the October Revolution and other social disasters did not happen, the overwhelming majority of citizens would continue to work 10-11 hours a day, for reproduction and spiritual development they would have one day off per week, and they simply would not have time for stupidity no money.
We inherited from the damned totalitarianism 100 days off a year, and capitalism provided cheap transgenic food and palm oil. It would seem, live and rejoice. What the French encyclopedists dreamed of has become a reality. The minimum wage is more than enough for food, and a ton of free time can be spent on smart books and self-improvement. However, a person does not want internal self-improvement. On the contrary, he wants to eat, copulate all the time and not be sick. Instead of hamburgers and Olivier salad, he eats diet bread and sweets with a sugar substitute, but his mouth is still busy all the time.
Unresolved is only the problem of a huge amount of free time. It was not for nothing that the ancients considered idleness to be the source of all vices. There is no moralizing here. This is just a statement of personal long-term observation of oneself and others. Man does not know how to fill his empty, meaningless and infinitely long life by the standards of even the last century.
His life, as a rule, is devoid of God, which makes it rather scary. In general, for non-religious consciousness, the fear of death is the main motor that makes it live, no matter what. A person for whom there is nothing beyond that limit, directs all forces to pushing the inevitable end. And old age for him is a sign of the approach of death, whose traces inexorably appear on their faces, like those who come over the years of illness.
The image of a young society imposed by marketers is completely fake. It is not relevant either to Russia or to Europe. This is in Nigeria and Tunisia the average age is 20 years. And in Russia - 40, in Germany - 46, in Japan - 50. This false youth is just an unattainable ideal, to which citizens begin to strive in insane stubbornness, having crossed the milestone of 40 years.
Women leave conditions with beauticians, trying to hide wrinkles. However, they are not fighting for their fertility. On the contrary, the birth of children is seen as an inevitable evil that steals a woman's beauty and health. Former beauties cheer each other, complimenting on the quality of cheekbones or eyelids lift.
Middle-aged men begin to spend hours running their lives, like sand through their fingers, on their daily lives.
