Древние видящие в свете четвертой вспышки увидели, что Орел "пожирает" сознания всех существ, умерших на планете миг тому назад. Эти осознания поднимаются как бесконечный поток светящихся клубков ваты прямо к "клюву" Орла и им разрываются на мелкие осколки пламени, после чего он их "съедает".
Для древних магов наблюдавших это, было очевидно, что смысл жизни всех существ (во всяком случае с "точки зрения" Орла) в обогащении, усилении осознания. Новые видящие, в том числе и Дон Хуан, предпочитали сравнивать Орла не с пожирателем сознаний, а с громадным магнитом, притягивающим эти сознания после смерти, подчеркивая безличность этой силы.
Древние маги также увидели, что именно Орел наделяет осознанием, создает все живые существа посредством своих эманаций. И очевидно для них было, что созданные им осознания должны усиливаться в процессе жизни с тем чтобы в момент смерти "пожирать" обогащенное осознание.
Видящие установили еще несколько фактов касательно Орла:
1. Орел видит все существа сразу и одинаковыми.
2. Орел обладает намерением о котором видящий может догадываться наблюдая за тем что делает Орел.
3. Несмотря на то, что Орлу глубоко безразлично каждое отдельное существо, он дал каждому из них свой дар Орла: каждое существо, если пожелает, имеет власть сохранить силу сознания, силу остаться не "сожранным" Орлом, с помощью определенных лазеек-проходов миновать "клюв" Орла.
4. С целью провести существа к соответствующим им лазейке Орел создал нагваля и правило нагваля.
5. Орел раздает "на хранение" жизнь и сознание с помощью некой накатывающей силы. Светящиеся коконы органических существа встречают накатывающую силу пока эта сила не оказывается слишком большой для них,после чего они разрушаются. Именно накат откатывает их массово назад к клюву Орла, а уж Орел вытянет из них каждую искру сознания до последней.
