По словам дочери покойного, Бернстайн умер во сне в среду утром (вечер среды мск) от естественных причин.
Сид Бернстайн родился 12 августа 1918 года в Нью-Йорке в еврейской семье эмигрантов из России.
Во время Второй мировой войны служил во Франции. Вернувшись после войны в США, стал музыкальным продюсером.
Бернстайн — первый человек, которому удалось открыть двери нью-йоркского зала Карнеги-холл для рок-группы, до Beatles в его стенах звучала только классическая музыка. Впервые он узнал о группе в 1962 году из английских газет. В сентябре 1963 года Бернстайн услышал Beatles по радио и решил организовать их выступление в США.
7 февраля 1964 года Beatles вылетели в первый тур по США. В аэропорту JFK (Нью-Йорк) и его окрестностях группу, невзирая на проливной дождь, ждали от 7 тысяч до 10 тысяч фанатов. Beatles дали два концерта в Карнеги-Холл и вашингтонском Coliseum, а также поучаствовали в телешоу Эда Салливана, которое, по оценке агентства Нильсен, посмотрели свыше 73 миллионов зрителей. События в США свидетельствовали о том, что после Великобритании Beatles завоевали популярность уже во всём мире.
Бернстайн также организовал для "ливерпульской четверки" исторический концерт на нью-йоркском стадионе "Шей" (Shea Stadium) 15 августа 1965 года, заложив традицию проводить крупные рок-концерты на стадионах. По свидетельству Бернстайна, посмотреть и послушать группу пришли более 55 тысяч человек.
