В первые 10,5 минут своей нобелевской речи Гарольд Пинтер рассказывает, как писал пьесы.
Автор начинал с одного слова, строчки или образа. Дальше появлялись действующие лица, он называл их буквами - A, B, С, например. С некоторого момента персонажами уже нельзя было манипулировать, у них была собственная воля и восприятие событий. К окончанию работы над пьесой Пинтер был убежден, что имеет дело с плотью и кровью.
Помимо реплик героев и авторских комментариев Гарольд Пинтер прописывал в пьесах места, где нужны паузы. Я дважды прочла вслух скетч "Зонтики", который нашли в архивах после смерти Пинтера. Оба раза мне было сложно выбрать длину пауз.
