Обсуждали на занятии текст, в котором автор приводит 10 пунктов, наличие которых определяет самый подходящий для жизни город (по мнению автора, Афины, Лима (Перу!) и Барселона ближе всего к идеалу).

The 10 things a perfect city needs:
1. It is near the sea, or another body of water warm enough to swim in.
2. Economics: when it is possible to live on your own wits: vintage clothes stores, a micro-brewery, burger joints, coffee bars not owned by global chains.
3. The finance sector has to be big enough to mobilise global capital and local savings.
4. It has to have theaters.
5. Bicycle lanes and trams.
6. A massive ecosystem of LGBT.
7. Architecture: classical and something that used to be a factory or warehouse. Positive atmosphere from the combination of brick, ornament, renovation and re-use.
8. It must be ethnically mixed and tolerant and hospitable to women.
9. No slums (трущобы).
10. A democratic political culture the inhabitants are proud of.
Для меня по этим критериям Петербург и Лондон наберут примерно одинаковое количество баллов.
