Желение иметь детей - единственный животный инстинкт, который, насколько я могу вспомнить, до последнего времени не осуждался и не контролировался религиозно-философскими системами. Если призывы соблюдать умереность в еде-питье-сексе-агрессии не повторял только ленивый, то призывов к умеренности в деторождении, насколько я помню, не появлялось века так до 19-го. Очень любопытно, что один из сильнейших инстинктов на протяжении долгого времени практически полностью ускользал от контроля со стороны культуры.
Мне могут сказать, что от деторождения отказывались монахи. Но в монашеском безбрачии, как мне кажется, акцент был не на отказе от деторождения, а на отказе от секса, первое скорее вытекало из второго, чем самостоятельно осмыслялось. И если церковные нормы требовали от мирян отказа от секса в посты и праздники, то про рождение детей никаких оговорок и даже предупреждений не было.
Сейчас люди постепенно начинают осознавать, что планета перенаселена. Среднее количество детей быстро снижается во всех странах, не только в Европе. Тем не менее иногда до сих пор встечаются люди, которые хотят *много* детей. Ещё чаще встречаются люди, которым кажется, что хотя три ребёнка это может быть и чересчур, но один ребёнок это точно слишком мало. И ещё вагон людей, которые думают, что не иметь детей совсем это какая-то неполноценная жизнь и как так вообще можно жить. На мягкий намёк, что земля и так перенаселена я иногда слышу "Это китайцев много, а в России наоборот население сокращается". Что русский и китаец равно нагружают биосферу в данном случае из внимания выпадает. Иногда это принимает и агрессивные формы типа "Всем русским (европиоидам) нужно срочно делать больше детей а то вон уже китайцев сколько много". Что характерно в последней фразе - дети при таком способе мышления рассматриваются как разновидность оружия, инструмента в захвате места под солнцем. Традиция такого отношения к детям стара как мир. Ещё в Псалмах дети (точнее, мальчики, кому девочки-то нужны) сравниваются со стрелами "Вот радость от Господа, сыновья, как крепкие стрелы в сильной руке. О, блажен человек, кто наполнил ими колчан, Не останется он в стыде, когда к воротам подступит враг" (перевод Аверинцева).
Из этого примера видно, что желание иметь детей слишком тесно связано с агрессией, желанием метить территорию и никого туда не пускать. Значит ли это, что детей иметь плохо? Нет. Мы все состоим из животных инстинктов, это часть нас, это строительный материал, из которого мы только и можем строить. Однако нужно понимать, из каких материалов мы строим, и как с ними обращаться, чтобы получался человечий дом, а не медвежья берлога.
P.S. Следует ли из того, что Земля перенаселена, что зазорно иметь больше одного-двух детей? Нет, конечно. Все люди разные, у каждой и у каждого своё призвание, а общие соображения не могут ограничить конкретного призвания. Только следует различать между призванием и пережитками агрессивной патриархальной морали, которая до сих пор оказыавет сильное влияние на всех нас.

What is characteristic in the last sentence - children with this method of thinking are considered as a kind of weapon, an instrument in capturing a place under the sun. The tradition of such an attitude towards children is as old as the world. Even in the Psalms, children (more precisely, boys who need girls) are compared with arrows. “Here is joy from the Lord, sons, like strong arrows in a strong hand.
