А вы знали, что для обозначения белого человека в США используют слово "кавказец" (caucasian)? В большинстве анкетах, где вам нужно будет указать ваш цвет кожи, вы встретите caucasian вместо white.
Пошло это от немецкого антрополога Фридриха Блуменбаха, жившего в XVIII веке. Блуменбах ввел понятие кавказской расы и отнёс к ней народы Европы (за исключением финнов, венгров и турок), а также жителей южной и передней Азии и северной и северо-восточной Африки. Название возникло от того, что Блуменбах ошибочно считал Кавказ местом рождения человечества.
И хотя теория вскоре была опровергнута, это слово прочно осело в американской культуре.
