Попались в руки мои старые выписки из комментариев к американскому комментированному изданию эпоса о Гильгамеше (2003 года, если правильно помню) в переводе Джорджа. Там полно перлов. Вот один из них - объяснение причины, по которой Гильгамеш не захотел жениться на Иштар:
"It seems that Gilgamesh is very aware that marriage to Ishtar would be of no normal marriage, for as I understand it, he envisages that it would lack many comforts a wife conventionally provides, in particular care of the person, provision of decent clothing, food and drink. In fact, the goddess of sex and war would make so unsuitable a wife, nobody would dream of marrying her".

My old extracts from the comments on the American commented edition of the Gilgamesh epic (2003, if I remember correctly) fell into the hands of George. There are a lot of pearls. Here is one of them - an explanation of the reason Gilgamesh did not want to marry Ishtar:
