Я слышал, что в гугле разработчикам выдают для работы ноутбуки с 64-мя или что-то такого порядка гигабайтами памяти. Видимо, поэтому хром жрёт её всё больше и больше с каждой новой версией. Если три года назад я докупил памяти с четырёх до восьми гигабайт «чтобы хром влез», то этим летом с той же целью взял уже 16, при том что вкладок у меня сильно больше не стало.
В последнее время появилась ещё одна фишка: хромовский gpu-process потребляет всё больше и больше cpu, вплоть до того, что иксы начинают тормозить. Помогает сделать kill -9 этому процессу, после чего хром его перезапускает и работает нормально — какое-то время.
nilfs
Мне порекомендовали в качестве файловой системы, которая умеет делать снимки, инкрементальные бекапы и прочее. С тем, чтобы очищать место, когда оно кончилось из-за обилия старых версий файлов, я справился. Но вот когда она побилась изнутри (без проблем с железом), стало грустно:

Нет, спасибо, вернусь на xfs, а бекапы буду делать целиком и не торопясь. До этих снимков у меня всё равно руки так и не дошли.

Тоже не радует своей файловой системой. Пишет, что места на карточках полно, а файлы сохранить не может: ни скриншот, ни обновление скачать, ни картинку в чатике телеграма загрузить. Впрочем, я так и не понял, какого чорта телеграмовский клиент хочет сохранить картинку, а не загрузить её в память и показать.
