"Гробница Богородицы или Храм Успения Пресвятой Богородицы — величайшая христианская святыня, расположена в Гефсимании у подножия западного склона Елеонской горы, в Кедронской долине, в Иерусалиме. Церковь Успения Пресвятой Богородицы в Иерусалиме построена в 12 веке на месте где в 326 году императрица Елена воздвигла первую церковь. В её полуподвальном помещении находятся гробницы родителей Богородицы Иоакима, Анны и Иосифа Обручника. В самой нижней части храма, в пещере, закрытой мраморной плитой, находится гробница, куда апостолами было положено тело Девы Марии после её смерти. Гробница была вскрыта по решению Шестого вселенского собора и в ней были найдены пояс и погребальные пелены. Церковь принадлежит греко-православной церкви, но имеются представительства русской, коптской, сирийской и армянской общин. Храм находится под землёй, вход в него с юга. От входа вниз ведет широкая каменная лестница из 48 ступеней. С двух сторон на спуске 2 ниши. Правая — алтарь, посвященный родителям Марии Иоахиму и Анне. Ниша напротив, с левой стороны, посвящена св. Иосифу. Некоторые считают, что он здесь похоронен. Могила Марии находится в самом низу, в искусственной пещере в скале и закрыта мраморной плитой, в которой пробиты 3 специальных отверстия для любителей потрогать. Своды над склепом Марии принадлежат еще самой первой церкви, стоявшей здесь и построенной в 4 веке византийским императором Феодосием I.
