ГИЛАС
Отплыли аргонавты от острова и после нескольких дней плавания
по бурному морю однажды вечером высадились на берегу Мцрта,
где впоследствии находился город Киос. Жители приняли их
радушно и дали им еду и вино.
Когда аргонавты отдыхали после долгих трудов, Геракл отправился в лес срубить дерево для нового весла — в этот день он сломал свое старое весло. Там он нашел высокую, стройную сосну и, положив на землю лук, стрелы и львиную шкуру, обхватил ствол сосны и вырвал ее из земли с корнем.
В это время красивый юноша Гилас, любимец Геракла, пошел набрать для него воды из ручья. Увидели нимфы прекрасного юношу, наклонившегося к ручью, и, очарованные его красотой, увлекли его за собой в воду. И утонул прекрасный Гилас в глубоком ручье, как сияющая звезда на небе, которая, падая, гаснет.
Аргонавт Полифем, услыша крик юноши, подумал, что его схватил какой-нибудь дикий зверь или разбойник, собирающийся увести его в горы, и он бросился к нему на помощь. По дороге он встретил Геракла и рассказал ему о несчастной судьбе юноши. Тогда разъяренный Геракл, бросив сосну наземь, кинулся на розыски Гиласа. Всю ночь он искал юношу, звал его громким голосом, и вдруг он услышал отдаленный и слабый звук. Геракл подошел к ручью, но Гиласа там не нашел.
