Thessaloniki. White Tower.
Белая Башня - самый частый (и для некоторых штатских - единственный ????) культурный символ этой части Греции.
Построена в конце 15 века на развалинах византийских построек. 33,9 м. в высоту, состоит из так называемого "ground floor" и ещё 6 этажей. Сменила много имён: "Lion's Tower" (16 в.), "The Fortress of Kalamaria" (18 в.), "Janissary Tower" и "The Blood Tower" (в 19 в. здесь располагалась тюрьма и казнили приговорённых к смерти). Своё нынешнее название башня получила в 1890 г., когда один из приговорённых отмыл её дочиста в обмен на свободу //а что, так тоже можно было, да? ????????//

The White Tower is the most frequent (and for some civilians - the only ????) cultural symbol of this part of Greece.
Built in the late 15th century on the ruins of Byzantine buildings. 33.9 m. In height, consists of the so-called "ground floor" and another 6 floors. Has changed many names: "Lion's Tower" (16th century), "The Fortress of Kalamaria" (18th century), "Janissary Tower" and "The Blood Tower" (in the 19th century a prison was located here and executed those sentenced to death) .
