[Израиль. День 7. Масада и Мёртвое море]
Кто бы мог подумать, что лучшая ночёвка случится в маленьком и доселе нам неизвестном мошаве Неот а-Кикар! Приехали затемно, страшно голодные, и были отправлены в соседний кэмпинг ужинать в долг, потому что ночь, пустыня - какие банкоматы? А у соседей совершеннейшая нирвана: потёртые диванчики на веранде, гамаки посреди двора, блюз, чёрные коты и звёздное небо. Утром йога на зелёной лужайке, 1 кг сушёных фиников от местного садовода и - НИКОГО вокруг.

Но придётся вернуться к обществу людей, потому что мы едем на Масаду, одну из самых посещаемых достопримечательностей страны. На одной горе Иудейской пустыни в 1 в днэ царь #Ирод выстроил могучую крепость: склады с оливками, вином и оружием, 2 дворца, бани, казармы и цистерны для сбора дождевой воды. Уже после разрушения Второго Храма здесь укрылись мятежные евреи, более 900 по словам И. Флавия и около 30 согласно археологическим находкам. Х римский легион успешно взял крепость, но на вершине победителей ждала лишь тишина. Если верить хроникам, евреи предпочли плену самоубийство.

И на что там смотреть, спросите вы. Кому нужна 2000-летняя старуха-крепость, а всего верней её фундамент, в лучшем случае. А вот смотреть-не пересмотреть! Археологи своё дело знают: стены помещений подняты, на них фрагменты разноцветных фресок, под ногами мозаика, стоят колонны с пышными коринфскими капителями, пусть им уже и нечего держать, в банях восстановлена часть гипокауста, отопительной системы.

Здесь были пиры, эти 4 углубления - от царского трона, вот ритуальные ванны, организованные мятежниками, здесь были найдены черепки с их именами, а вот византийская церковь - прошло однажды и время римлян. Живая история, обдуваемая непослушными ветрами пустыни.

Подъём и спуск своими ногами нам не позволили: мол, невыносима жара. Пришлось заменить живописную прогулку на 3 мин фуникулёра. Возможно это и к лучшему, потому что час вверх и полчаса вниз отняли бы у нас время от изучения самой крепости (ок.600х300 м на минуточку). А нам ещё нужно пропитаться минералами Мёртвого моря.

А тут что интересного? Во-первых, это самый низкий участок суши в мире - 429 м ниже уровня моря. Во-вторых, это водоём в 10 раз солонее океана. Все пробуют лизнуть и потом долго кривятся от удовольствия. Погружаться с головой не пробует никто - попадание в глаза чревато временной слепотой. Зато можно почитать книгу, лёжа на спинке, побултыхаться в неудачных попытках утонуть и покрыться красными пятнами от чрезмерного засаливания. Кстати, полезная минерализация кожи сопровождается её стремительным иссушиванием. Поэтому после купания нужно хорошенько помыться и намазаться кремами.

И всё бы хорошо, если бы Мёртвое море не умирало. Каждый год поверхность воды уменьшается на 1 м, а многие пляжи на севере закрыты из-за провалов грунта. Ещё лет 6-7 назад нас возили на пляж Эйн Геди, а сегодня там уже пусто. Так что езжайте, товарищи, пока не поздно, а то будете потом посыпать голову солью.

[Israel. Day 7. Masada and the Dead Sea]

We arrived in the dark, terribly hungry, and were sent to a nearby motor home to have dinner in debt, because the night, the desert - which ATMs? And the neighbors have perfect nirvana: worn sofas on the veranda, hammocks in the middle of the yard, blues, black cats and the starry sky. In the morning, yoga on a green lawn, 1 kg of dried dates from a local gardener and - no one around.

But we will have to return to the society of people, because we are going to Masada, one of the most visited attractions of the country. On one mountain of the Judean desert in 1 in the day king # Herod built a mighty fortress: warehouses with olives, wine and weapons, 2 palaces, baths, barracks and cisterns for collecting rainwater. After the destruction of the Second Temple, rebel Jews hid here, more than 900 according to I. Flavius and about 30 according to archaeological finds. X Roman Legion successfully took the fortress, but at the top of the winners only silence awaited. According to the chronicles, the Jews preferred to captivity suicide.

Archaeologists know their business: the walls of the rooms are raised, fragments of multi-colored frescoes on them, a mosaic under their feet, columns with lush Corinthian capitals stand, even if they have nothing to hold, a part of the hypocaust heating system has been restored in the baths.

There were feasts, these 4 grooves - from the royal throne, here are the ritual baths organized by the rebels, here were found shards with their names, but the Byzantine church - the time of the Romans passed once. Living history, blown by the naughty winds of the desert.

Lifting and descending with their feet did not allow us: they say, the heat is unbearable. I had to replace the picturesque walk for 3 minutes of the funicular. Perhaps this is for the better, because an hour up and half an hour down would take away our time from exploring the fortress itself (ca. 600 x 300 meters for a minute). And we still need to soak in the Dead Sea minerals.

And then what's interesting? Firstly, it is the lowest land area in the world - 429 m below sea level. Secondly, it is a reservoir 10 times saltier than the ocean. Everyone is trying to lick and then curl from pleasure for a long time. No one tries to dive with his head - contact with eyes is fraught with temporary blindness. But you can read the book, lying on the back, blinking in unsuccessful attempts to drown and become covered with red spots from excessive salting. By the way, the useful mineralization of the skin is accompanied by its rapid desiccation. Therefore, after bathing you need to thoroughly wash and smear with creams.

And everything would be fine if the Dead Sea did not die. Each year, the water surface is reduced by 1 m, and many beaches in the north are closed due to ground dips. Another 6-7 years ago we were taken to the beach of Ein Gedi, and today it is already empty there. So go, comrades, before it's too late, otherwise you will then sprinkle salt on your head.
