Он видел Ангелов восходящих: святых людей, поднимающихся от земли на небо. Он видел ангелов нисходящих: диавола, демонов и его воинство, низвергнутое с неба. И это огромная трудность – восходить от земли на небо. Ведь мы легче падаем, нежели поднимаемся. Для нас легче падать, ибо в восхождении – огромный труд и много пота. И если я буду стоять на первой ступени, то сколько мне еще останется до небес? И если буду затем на второй, на третьей, на четвертой, на десятой ступени, то какая мне польза, если не достигну вершины? Допустим, для меня эта лестница состоит из пятнадцати ступеней и я дошел до четырнадцатой – но если не достигну пятнадцатой, то что мне пользы, что дошел до четырнадцатой? Если же дойду до пятнадцатой и упаду, то большее восхождение станет для меня и большим падением».
А так как ад не предназначен для людей, ибо он «уготованный диаволу и ангелам его» (Мф. 25, 41), то восхождение на Небеса по лестнице, виденной Иаковом и описанной в повествованиях о мытарствах, будет предоставлено каждому человеку. И естественно, что бесы и демоны всячески будут препятствовать человекам взойти туда, где некогда обитали и они сами, и диавол, который «от начала и не устоял в истине» (Ин. 8, 44); и еще: «Как упал ты с неба, денница, сын зари! разбился о землю» (Ис. 14, 12). Только мученики и великие святые восходят на Небеса, минуя мытарства. По Церковному Преданию, Пресвятая Дева Мария в Пречистом теле вознеслась на Небеса. Об этом свидетельствуют молитвословия и восхваления праздника святого Успения.
Кто-то может возразить нам: а разве сейчас бесы и демоны не находятся в аду? Сказано: «И вот, они закричали (то есть бесы. – прот. О.С.): что Тебе до нас, Иисус, Сын Божий? пришел Ты сюда прежде времени мучить нас» (Мф. 8, 29). Новый Завет показывает нам, что бесы обитают в бесноватых людях (Мф. 8, 28), могут войти в животных (Мф. 8, 32), но главное место их обитания и господства – поднебесная. Как мы выше и читали, война между людьми и силами зла продолжается «по воле князя, господствующего в воздухе, духа, действующего ныне в сынах противления» (Еф. 2, 2). То есть, господствуя в воздухе, он (диавол) действует на земле «ныне в сынах противления». И нам остается вместе с плачущим пророком Иеремией умолять Бога: «Преследуй их, Господи, гневом, и истреби их из поднебесной» (Плач 3, 66). Власть диавола на земле восстановится только во дни антихриста и только на три с половиной года (Откр. 20, 7).
Выше мы обратили внимание на то, что мученики и совершенные святые беспрепятственно восходят по смерти на Небеса. Но в Библии описываются и два телесных вознесения на Небеса: праведного Еноха и пророка Илии. И опять описание не оставляет сомнений в реальности восхождения в Царство Небесное через пространство между нашим небом и нашей землею. It is said: “And Enoch walked before God; and he was not, because God took him ”(Genesis 5, 24); and again: “When they walked and talked on the road, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared, and they parted them both, and Elijah swept in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha looked and exclaimed: my father, my father, the chariot of Israel and his cavalry! And did not see him anymore. And he grabbed his clothes and tore them into two parts. And he lifted up Elijah's mantle, which fell from him, and went back, and stood on the bank of the Jordan; and took the grace of Elijah that fell from him ”(2 Kings 2, 11-14).
