Труд гонит от нас демонов.
Когда жбан, - говорит преподобный Пимен Великий, - кипит, снизу поджигаемый, тогда ни муха, ни другое какое-либо насекомое не смеет прикоснуться к нему; когда же остынет, то и мухи, и все насекомые садятся на него; так и к человеку, к честным занятиям прилежащему, враг рода человеческого не смеет приступить. Кто же живет в небрежении и лености, того низлагает он без всякого труда».

Один великий старец имел ученика, который жил рядом с ним, но в особой келье. Однажды старец услышал бесов, вопиявших: «Горе нам от этих монахов: и к старцу приблизиться не можем, и к ученику его тоже, потому что последний разоряет и строит, и никогда не видим его праздным». Слыша это, старец понял, что от него самого гонит бесов присущая ему благодать Божия, а об ученике недоумевал, что это значит: разоряет и строит? Вечером он пришел к ученику и спросил: «Как живешь?» Ученик отвечал: «Хорошо, отче». Старец стал выпытывать у него, не впадает ли он в уныние. Тогда ученик указал рукою на лежавшие около него камни и сказал: «Из этого камня я строю стены, а потом снова разрушаю их и, поступая так, не ощущаю уныния».
Тут великий старец и понял, что бесы потому не могли приблизиться к его ученику, что никогда не видели его праздным и стал поощрять ученика к продолжению труда. Другим же старец об этом говорил: «Знаю, что своим деланием ученик мой не приносил никакого прибытка ни себе, ни другим; но зато, поскольку не был празден, бесы не находили времени, чтобы приблизиться к нему».
Итак, как показывает этот пример, и труд есть надежное оружие против козней бесовских. Если же, по всему этому, труд так надежен в борьбе с врагами нашего спасения, то и держитесь его. Трудитесь и работайте во славу Божию, на пользу ближних и во спасение вашей души, - и бесы будут далеко от вас.

Labor drives demons from us.

To the other, the elder said this: “I know that by doing it my disciple did not bring any profit to himself or to others; but on the other hand, because he was not idle, the demons did not find time to approach him. "
So, as this example shows, labor is a reliable weapon against the machinations of demons. If, for all this, labor is so reliable in the fight against the enemies of our salvation, then stick to it. Work and work for the glory of God, for the benefit of your neighbors and for the salvation of your soul - and demons will be far from you.
