День усекновения главы Честнаго Пророка и Предтечи, Крестителя Господня, Иоанна - это праздник. Но это также день памятный и скорбный. В этот день святая Церковь благословляет строгий пост. Святейший Патриарх благословил этот день также как День Трезвости. Трезвости значит трезвения физического и духовного.
Чтобы не уподобиться Ироду, который был опьянён не только вином и обильными яствами, но сначала страстью к чужой жене, затем красотой юной танцовщицы; а также тщеславием и людским почётом. И потому, в угоду своим страстям, решил предать правду Божию - которая мешала ему жить с комфортом.
С другой стороны, чтобы вложить себе в сердце, запомнить, пример святейшего мужа, Иоанна Предтечи, - который возвещал правду Божию, не думая о собственном комфорте, о своей безопасности, не думая о себе. "Отвергнись себя, возьми крест свой и следуй за Мною", - эти слова Спасителя жизнь Иоанна Крестителя воплощает как нельзя лучше.
Святой Пророк и Предтеча, Креститель Господень Иоанн говорил правду Божию. Он не человекоугодничал, но исповедовал Господа, не боясь за свою жизнь, за свой комфорт, а боясь только гнева Божия и неправды. Это прекрасный пример для всех христиан.
Также этот праздник учит нас тому, что не всякое послушание угодно Богу. Господь велит слушаться родителей и старших. Но если родитель или старший велит делать вещи, идущие вразрез с правдой Божией, такое послушание ведёт человека в погибель. Мы знаем, как плачевно закончила свою жизнь Саломея, гордившаяся своим искусством танца и послушавшая свою нечестивую мать. Мы знаем, чем закончили Ирод и Иродиада. Потому что Бог поругаем не бывает. А начало премудрости - страх Господень. Страх оскорбить Господа, страх отступить от правды Божией. Потому что отступление от правды Божией, грех, влечёт за собой не только дурную физическую смерть, но - что гораздо хуже - гибель духовную.
Это поучительный праздник для нас.

Наружность - не всегда показатель того, что внутри. Хочется вспомнить слова из послания святого апостола Иоанна Богослова: "Не любите мира, ни того, что в мире: кто любит мир, в том нет любви Отчей. Ибо все, что в мире: похоть плоти, похоть очей и гордость житейская, не есть от Отца, но от мира сего". Никакую красоту, никакие блага этого мира нельзя предпочитать правде Божией и Его воле!
