Сошествие Духа Святого в день Пятидесятницы, явление огненных языков в дыхании бурном есть, как говорит святитель Феофан Затворник, первый вдох человечества жизнью Божественной. Потому что человечество было уже мертво. Оно было подобно тому полю, о котором говорит пророк Иезекииль, усыпанному костями человеческими, которые дыханием Духа Святого соединяются в тело живое, и сообщается этому телу новая жизнь (Иез. 37, 1–14). И все человечество теперь дышит этим дыханием через Церковь. Церковь имеет дыхание Божественной жизни через таинства, через священнодействия. И пост, и молитва, и праздники наши, и все, что в Церкви совершается, – это те кровеносные сосуды, через которые в тело Церкви поступает дыхание вечной жизни. И все человечество живо только этим – только постольку, поскольку оно причастно этой жизни; постольку, поскольку существует Церковь.
Человечество задыхается в духовном тупике, не зная Церкви, и одновременно в мире сегодня заявляют о себе множество религий, привлекая к себе миллионы людей ложным вдохновением, открывающим пространства смерти. Но и в христианстве, мы знаем, существует немало опаснейших болезней. «У католиков, – говорит святой Феофан Затворник, – легкие уже в значительной степени сгнили. Тяжело больные легкие – это оттого, что искажены таинства. У протестантов дыхание происходит только одной четвертью легких, потому что таинства либо совсем упразднены, либо произошло их сильное искажение». И здесь мы должны упомянуть еще об одном явлении, о реальности, которую многие христиане очень часто забывают, и которая, тем не менее, присутствует повсюду. Мы говорим о тайне зла, диавола, сатаны, духов злобы поднебесных. В пустыне Христос был искушаем духом зла. Тот же самый дух по сей день искушает каждого христианина, всю Церковь, весь народ Божий. Только Дух Святой может спасти нас.

The descent of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the appearance of fiery tongues in a stormy breath is, as St. Theophan the Recluse says, the first inhalation of mankind by divine life. Because humanity was already dead. It was like the field that the prophet Ezekiel speaks of, strewn with human bones, which, by the breath of the Holy Spirit, unite into a living body, and a new life is communicated to this body (Ezekiel 37: 1-14). And all of humanity is now breathing this breath through the Church. The church has the breath of the divine life through the sacraments, through sacred actions. And fasting, and prayer, and our holidays, and all that is done in the Church are those blood vessels through which the breath of eternal life enters the body of the Church. And all of humanity is alive only by this - only insofar as it is involved in this life; insofar as the Church exists.
Mankind is suffocating in a spiritual impasse, not knowing the Church, and at the same time in the world today many religions are asserting themselves, attracting millions of people to themselves with false inspiration that opens up the spaces of death. But in Christianity, we know, there are many dangerous diseases. “For Catholics,” says St. Theophan the Recluse, “the lungs have already decayed to a large extent. Severely ill lungs are because the sacraments are distorted. In Protestants, only one quarter of the lungs breathe, because the sacraments are either completely abolished or they were severely distorted. ” And here we must mention another phenomenon, a reality that many Christians very often forget, and which, nevertheless, is present everywhere. We are talking about the mystery of evil, the devil, Satan, the spirits of the wickedness of heaven. In the wilderness, Christ was tempted by the spirit of evil. The same spirit still tempts every Christian, the whole Church, the whole people of God. Only the Holy Spirit can save us.
