Затерянный среди "in the middle of nowhere", город Улан - Батор - место во всех отношениях странное.
Про всё что угодно можно сказать - город контрастов. Хотя, реальный город контрастов , именно здесь. Ещё недавно в Монголии вообще не было городов и большинство жителей страны, старше 40 лет, родились в кочевых юртах. Более того, около половины монголов до сих пор там живут. И не только в степи или пустыне Гоби. Они привезли юрты в возникшую в прошлом веке столицу - в Улан-Батор. Сегодня, в самом городе, около двадцати процентов населения по прежнему живёт в юртах. И вместе с тем, Улан-Батор современный город, с многоэтажными домами, моднейшими ресторанами, детскими площадками, неоновой рекламой, небоскрёбами и бизнес-центрами на крышах которых ...опять же стоят юрты.
Даже выход монгольской оппозиции в 2008 назвали как? Правильно. Юрточная революция.
То есть юрты всё таки везде. Но везде и университеты и супермаркеты и дворцы- музеи и детские сады, с кофейнями и пабами. Город ,которого не было , сейчас динамично развивающийся центр этого удаленного азиатского региона. Где кириллица спокойно уживается с "арабицей" , небоскреб с юртой, лама с шаманом, а кочевник с салоном красоты.

Lost among the "in the middle of nowhere", the city of Ulan Bator is a strange place in all respects.
About anything you can say - a city of contrasts. Although, the real city of contrasts, it is here. More recently, in Mongolia there were no cities at all, and most of the country's inhabitants, over 40 years old, were born in nomadic yurts. Moreover, about half of the Mongols still live there. And not only in the steppe or the Gobi desert. They brought yurts to the capital that emerged in the last century - to Ulan Bator. Today, in the city itself, about twenty percent of the population still lives in yurts. And at the same time, Ulan Bator is a modern city, with high-rise buildings, modern restaurants, playgrounds, neon advertising, skyscrapers and business centers on the roofs of which ... again there are yurts.
Even the exit of the Mongolian opposition in 2008 was called as? Right. Yurt revolution.

The city, which was not, is now dynamically developing center of this remote Asian region. Where Cyrillic quietly live with the "Arabica", a skyscraper with a yurt, a lama with a shaman, and a nomad with a beauty salon.
