У многих из нас, обывателей, Румыния ассоцируется прежде всего с цыганами. Ещё с Дракулой, но это уже другая история.
Так вот про цыган. До второй половины 19 века, цыгане в Румынии были рабами и их судьба складывалась не самым удачном образом.
То есть цыгане долгое время удерживались в Валахии и Бессарабии насильно. Мужчин использовали на ремесленных работах, женщин в качестве наложниц, всякие такие истории. Так что миф о том, что цыганам здесь было дико кайфово и они издевались над простодушным румынским населением не совсем актуален.
Миф второй. В Румынии одни цыгане. На самом деле, их по самым смелым оценкам не более 10 % населения. И здесь нет ни одного города или региона с цыганским большинством.
Миф третий. Они все маргинальны и агрессивны. Они реально разные. Я видел обычных людей(понятно, что не совсем обычных, но всё же) - В
вчера в ресторане, в старом Бухаресте напротив меня сидели две семьи. Если бы не юбки да платки, я бы даже не понял кто это. Говорят между собой по румынски. Дети хорошо одеты, нормально себя ведут, ничего люльского... И таких немало. Есть, конечно, и Ферентари. И торговля наркотиками и (как ни странно это для нас) проституция, остуствия образования. Но все меняется. Цыгане медленно, но верно оставляют традиции предков и с точки зрения моих румынских собеседников, процесс их интеграции в европейскую жизнь неизбежен. Якобы, невозможно быть персонажами из начала прошлого века, в 21 столетии. Что-ж, время покажет.

And the drug trade and (oddly enough for us) prostitution, the remains of education. But everything changes. Gypsies are slowly but surely leaving the traditions of their ancestors from the point of view of my Romanian interlocutors, the process of their integration into European life is inevitable. Allegedly, it is impossible to be characters from the beginning of the last century, in the 21st century. Well, time will tell.
