В начале были гаметы. И хотя уже явилось половое размножение, не было еще пола, и всякая жизнь пребывала в равновесии. И сказал Бог: «Да будет сперматозоид!», и усохли одни половые клетки, и стали дешевы, и заполонили рынок. И сказал Бог: «Да будет яйцеклетка!», и великим множеством напали сперматозоиды на другие половые клетки. И плоды из них приносили немногие, ибо не заботился Сперматозоид о пропитании зиготы малой, и только самые запасливые Яйцеклетки способны были возместить недостачу. И с течением времен становились они все больше. И поместил Господь Яйцеклетки в утробу, и заповедовал: «Здесь пребывайте, ибо на недвижимость обрекла вас величина ваша. Tак пусть же Сперматозоид стремится к вам в палатах ваших. Отныне да будете вы оплодотворяться внутренне», и стало так. И сказал Господь гаметам: «Плоды слияния вашего да обитают пусть во средах всяких и облик всякий принимают. Пусть дышат они воздухом, и водою, и сернистой грязью источников гидротермальных. Но заповеди моей единственной не забывайте, неизменной от начала времен: распространяйте гены свои». Так явились в мир Сперматозоид и Яйцеклетка. И сказал Сперматозоид: «Мал я, и многочислен, и заповедь Господню исполню верно, коли рассеюсь повсюду. Стану я вовеки искать новых партнеров и оставлять их в тягости, ибо многочисленны чрева, а время быстротечно». Но молвила Яйцеклетка: «Вот, бремя размножения тяготит меня. Суждено мне вынашивать плоть, лишь наполовину мою, нести и кормить ее, даже когда та покинет палаты мои», ибо к тому часу многие тела Яйцеклетки наделены были теплою кровью и мягкою шерстью. «Малочисленны дети мои, и должна я посвятить им себя и защищать от напасти. Так пусть же поможет мне в том Сперматозоид, ибо в том его вина. И пускай он стремится от объятий моих, не дозволю я ему блудить и возлежать с конкурентками моими». И не понравилось то Сперматозоиду. И улыбнулся Господь, ибо заповедь его вовлекла Сперматозоид и Яйцеклетку в войну друг с другом, коя не прекратится до того дня, когда оба они обратятся в рудименты.
