Цикл "Зоны мысли" (или "Фам Нювен") Вернора Винджа - очень рекомендую. Виндж как всегда на высоте.
"Пламя над бездной" - высокотехнологичная цивилизация откапывает в галактических архивах описание создания машины, обещающей несметное количество профита и выход на новый уровень развития. И... пробуждается древнее Зло... *ужасающий смех" УАХАХАХАХ. В романе представлена оригинальная концепция «зон» Галактики с немного отличными друг от друга физическими законами (всё завязано на скорость света и возможность её преодоления). Благодаря этим зонам в разных частях Галактики могут сосуществовать цивилизации, находящиеся на разных этапах технологического развития: от первобытных племен до сверхинтеллектов.
"Глубина в небе" - по интересности сюжета и важности поднимаемых вопросов превосходит первую книгу. Действие происходит в "медленной зоне" за 30000 лет до событий из первого романа. Две различные людские цивилизации, ведомые желанием расширить сферы своего торгового/военного влияния, сталкиваются на орбите отдаленной планеты. Планета населена представителями другого разумного вида, находящегося на уровне развития человечества в XX веке. Это книга о столкновении культур. Для выживания столь различным цивилизациям придется искать общий язык, ценности, точки пересечения. Не могу сказать, что выбрана оптимальная политика взаимодействия. К сожалению, как и в жизни сложно придерживаться стратегии win-win, и не удается прийти к Парето-оптимальному решению.
"Дети неба" - заключающая книга цикла. Почему-то не пошла. Не смог осилить начало книги - скучновато. Попробую вернуться к ней позже.

"Flame over the abyss" - a high-tech civilization digs up in the galactic archives a description of the creation of a machine that promises a myriad of profit and a new level of development. And ... the ancient Evil is awakening ... * terrifying laughter "WAHAHAHAH. The novel presents the original concept of the" zones "of the Galaxy with physical laws slightly different from each other (everything is tied to the speed of light and the ability to overcome it). Thanks to these zones in different parts of the galaxy can coexist civilizations that are at different stages of technological development: from primitive tribes to superintelligence.
"Depth in the sky" - on the interestingness of the plot and the importance of the issues raised, exceeds the first book. The action takes place in the "slow zone" 30,000 years before the events of the first novel. Two different human civilizations, driven by the desire to expand the scope of their commercial / military influence, collide in the orbit of a distant planet. The planet is inhabited by representatives of another reasonable species that is at the level of human development in the 20th century. This is a book about the clash of cultures. To survive, so different civilizations will have to find a common language, values, points of intersection. I can not say that the optimal policy of interaction is chosen. Unfortunately, as in life it is difficult to adhere to the win-win strategy, and it is not possible to come to a Pareto-optimal solution.
"Children of Heaven" - the concluding book of the cycle. For some reason, did not go. I could not master the beginning of the book - boring. I will try to return to it later.
