Jean Mercure, Sarabande for lute in D minor
Jean Mercure (1600 - 1661) was a French lutenist and composer, active in England and France (Not to be confused with Mercure d'Orleans). Jean Mercure was established at the court of Charles I in 1641. He was one of several who used the free-voiced texture and heavily ornamented "brise" style. These new elements of lute style quickly brought significant changes in English lute music.
