Это место случайно найти невозможно. Где-то между Santa Cruz и Sucre, затерянная в горах деревня La Higuera. От Vallegrande дорога - грунтовый серпантин - поднимается на 2 километра в горы. Во время дождя превращается в труднопроходимое месиво. Деревня Pucara, здесь дорога сворачивает в La Higuera, где и заканчивается, это тупик. Три машины в день - это удача. В деревне 20 семей. Когда-то было 80...
"В сентябре они пришли. Сначала в местечко что повыше, там как раз был праздник, и они пили, веселились и общались с местными жителями. На следующий день с двумя мулами они пришли в нашу деревню. Че ни с кем не говорил, они прошли дальше к реке. Солдаты уже были здесь. В этом самом доме жил офицер Боливийской армии... В полночь солдаты вернулись, они поймали Че и отвели в небольшую школу, вот она, на противоположной стороне площади. На следующее утро там его и убили".
Потом тело отвезли в Vallegrande, похоронили под взлетно-посадочной полосой. В конце концов, один из солдат показал это место, его эксгумировали и перевезли на Кубу, где он и должен был обрести покой. Там, где он обрёл славу.
Центральная площадь деревни выполнена в форме пятиконечной звезды, в центре которой стоит бюст команданте с простой надписью Che. Неподалеку бронзовый памятник метра в 3. В поднятой руке сигара. Тишина и покой. Здесь невольно задаешь себе вопрос: "О чем он думал в те последние часы своей жизни?".
