СВЩМЧ. ВАСИЛИЙ КИНЕШЕМСКИЙ: КАК УКРЕПИТЬ ВЕРУ
Епископ Василий (Преображенский) (1876-1945) - магистр богословия, преподаватель обличительного богословия, некоторое время жил в Англии, углубленно изучал европейскую культуру. Участник международных съездов скаутского движения, блестящий педагог. Его труды по скаутингу были признаны одними из лучших и должны были внедряться в России, но грянула революция.
Утопая, дал обет посвятить себя служению церкви, спасся и стал монахом. Жил в крайней бедности на окраине города в маленькой баньке, спал на голом полу, положив под голову полено. Был талантливым проповедником — его проповеди привлекали в храм множество людей.
С 1925 по 1945 большую часть времени проводил в тюрьмах и ссылках. Перед смертью попросил отбывавшую ссылку в том же селе монахиню прочесть канон на исход души. Когда она прочла последнюю молитву, святитель сам твердым голосом произнес: «Аминь» и тихо почил.

Для духовной жизни вера необходима, ибо без нее нет связи с единственным источником жизни и духовной силы - с Богом. Почему так - мы не будем сейчас рассматривать. Практически для нас важно здесь другое: как укрепить веру?
МОЛИТВА О ВЕРЕ
Непосредственное обращение к Богу с просьбою о помощи является первым средством укрепления веры. Но как же молиться, если нет веры? Принуждая себя, как будто уже имея веру: "Верую Господи! Помоги моему неверию!"
ПРИМЕР
Другим средством укрепления веры служит пример. Пример всегда заразителен, и глубокая искренняя вера, соединенная с подвигом и высокой христианской жизнью, невольно внушает уважение и вызывает подражание. Ищете сообщества верующих, которое может укрепить вашу веру. Особенно полезно общение и знакомство с людьми, отличающимися высокой духовной настроенностью: со старцами, подвижниками, юродивыми.
С другой стороны, всеми мерами следует избегать общества неверующих и отрицателей всякого рода. Заразителен тот пренебрежительный тон, которым они говорят о святейших истинах религии. Уже одно то обстоятельство, что эта святыня христианства вытаскивается на подмостки и треплется бесцеремонно перед толпой, лишает даже твердо верующих людей возможности отнестись к этим великим вопросам с надлежащим благоговением и серьезностью. Они рассчитывают на то впечатление, которое производит их бесцеремонная развязанность и весь кощунственный тон лекций. Это не серьезная полемика, где научно и беспристрастно рассматриваются вопросы религии, а просто прием агитации, рассчитанный на то, чтобы смутить верующих. Душу следует беречь от грязи и не посещать собраний, где оскорбляется вера или преступаются нравственные требования. "На путь нечестивых не ходите и в сонме законопреступных не сидите".
ЛИЧНЫЙ ОПЫТ
Наконец, едва ли не самым действенным средством укрепления веры является ее проверка личным опытом. Ничто не может заменить человеку его личного опыта: ни чужой пример, ни убеждения других людей. Вера вовсе не есть собрание одних умозрительных истин и менее всего основывается на рассудочных данных, хотя так именно и смотрят на веру ее противники. Но в этом-то заключается их главная ошибка. Им кажется, что стоит только логически разобрать и опровергнуть те теоретические истины, которые они принимают за сущность веры, и все будет сделано: вера рассыплется сама собой. Между тем жизнь опровергает эти соображения, и несмотря на постоянную, усиленную бомбардировку тяжелыми "научными" снарядами, твердыни веры остаются непоколебимыми.
Вера прежде всего есть непосредственное ощущение живой всемогущей силы, действующей в вашей жизни помимо вашей воли, ощущение, основанное на опыте. Необходимо всеми мерами стремиться к тому, чтобы пережить его в своей жизни для укрепления веры. Каким образом это можно сделать?
Если в вас копошатся сомнения и вы хотите наверное знать, от Бога ли дано Евангельское учение, заключающее в себе основы нашей веры, то попробуйте исполнить его веления в жизни, подчиниться его правилам, впитать в себя дух его, и вы тогда на опыте убедитесь, что оно от Бога, что в нем выражается воля Божия, ибо вы сразу его абсолютную правду и бездонную мудрость для человека недоступную.
И не рассуждением, конечно, не бесплодным логизированием и спорами можно проверить Евангелие, ибо это - Книга жизни, а не учебник философии и не арифметическая задача. Единственный точный способ проверки здесь - опыт.
"За сохранение заповедей, - говорит преподобный Исаак Сирин, - ум сподобляется благодати таинственного созерцания и откровений духовного ведения".
То же подтверждает и преподобный Симеон Новый Богослов: "Посредством добродетелей и заповедей открывается для нас дверь ведения. Другим же каким-либо способом достигнуть его невозможно".
Итак, жизнь по Евангелию, жизнь добродетельная, исполнение Заповедей Божиих - вот лучший способ укрепления религиозной веры.

Bishop Vasily (Preobrazhensky) (1876-1945) - Master of Theology, teacher of accusatory theology, lived for some time in England, deeply studied European culture. Participant of international congresses of the scout movement, a brilliant teacher. His work on scouting was recognized as one of the best and was supposed to be introduced in Russia, but the revolution broke out.
Drowning, he vowed to devote himself to serving the church, was saved and became a monk. He lived in extreme poverty on the outskirts of the city in a small bathhouse, slept on the bare floor with a log under his head. He was a talented preacher - his sermons attracted many people to the temple.
From 1925 to 1945 he spent most of his time in prisons and exile. Before his death, he asked a nun who was serving exile in the same village to read the canon for the exodus of the soul. When she read the last prayer, the saint himself in a firm voice said: "Amen" and quietly rested.

Faith is essential for spiritual life, for without it there is no connection with the only source of life and spiritual strength - with God. Why so - we will not consider now. In practice, something else is important for us here: how to strengthen our faith?
PRAYER FOR FAITH
A direct appeal to God for help is the first means of building faith. But how can one pray if there is no faith? Forcing himself, as if he already had faith: "I believe the Lord! Help my unbelief!"
EXAMPLE
Example is another means of building faith. An example is always infectious, and a deep, sincere faith, combined with exploit and a high Christian life, involuntarily inspires respect and arouses imitation. Looking for a community of believers that can strengthen your faith. Especially useful is communication and acquaintance with people with a high spiritual disposition: with elders, ascetics, holy fools.
On the other hand, by all means one should avoid the society of unbelievers and deniers of all kinds. The dismissive tone in which they speak about the most sacred truths of religion is contagious. The mere fact that this sacred object of Christianity is being dragged onto the stage and flapping unceremoniously in front of the crowd deprives even firmly believing people of the opportunity to treat these great issues with the proper reverence and seriousness. They count on the impression produced by their unceremonious looseness and the whole blasphemous tone of the lectures. This is not a serious polemic, where religious issues are considered scientifically and impartially, but simply an agitation technique designed to confuse believers. The soul should be protected from dirt and should not attend meetings where faith is offended or moral requirements are violated. "Do not go in the way of the wicked, and do not sit in the assembly of the transgressors."
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Finally, perhaps the most effective means of strengthening faith is to test it through personal experience. Nothing can replace a person's personal experience: neither someone else's example, nor the convictions of other people. Faith is not at all a collection of speculative truths alone, and is least of all based on rational data, although this is precisely how its opponents look at faith. But this is their main mistake. It seems to them that it is only necessary to logically analyze and refute those theoretical truths that they take for the essence of faith, and everything will be done: faith will crumble by itself. Meanwhile, life refutes these considerations, and despite the constant, intensified bombardment with heavy "scientific" shells, the strongholds of faith remain unshakable.
Faith is, first of all, a direct sensation of a living omnipotent force acting in your life against your will, a sensation based on experience. It is necessary by all means to strive to experience it in your life to strengthen your faith. How can this be done?
If doubts swarm in you and you want to know for certain whether the Gospel teaching that contains the foundations of our faith has been given from God, then try to fulfill his commands in life, obey his rules, absorb his spirit, and then you will be convinced by experience, that it is from God, that the will of God is expressed in it, for you are immediately his absolute truth and bottomless wisdom inaccessible to man.
And not by reasoning, of course, not by fruitless logic and arguments, one can check the Gospel, for it is the Book of Life, not a textbook of philosophy and not an arithmetic problem. The only accurate test here is experience.
"For the preservation of the commandments," says the Monk Isaac the Syrian, "the mind is endowed with the grace of mysterious contemplation and revelations of spiritual knowledge."
The same is confirmed by the Monk Simeon the New Theologian: "Through virtues and commandments the door of knowledge is opened for us. It is impossible to achieve it in any other way."
So, living according to the Gospel, virtuous life, fulfilling the commandments of God - this is the best way to strengthen religious faith.
