БЕЗ ТЕРПЕНИЯ НЕВОЗМОЖНО НАЙТИ ПОКОЙ

1. Терпению свойственно умерщвлять отчаяние, умерщвляющее душу. Оно научает душу утешать себя и не унывать от множества браней и скорбей.
2. В мысленной же брани невозможно найти места, где бы ее не было; хотя бы и все творение прошел кто-либо, но куда ни пойдет, везде встретит брань. И нигде нет места без испытаний, потому без терпения и невозможно найти покой.
3. Бог близок к тем, которые желают ради Его терпеть искушение и не хотят оставить добродетель по нерадению из-за скорби, но предпочитают закон Божий, и в терпении того, что их постигает, увеселяются надеждою спасения.
4. Когда встретит бурю, терпит с радостью, ожидая конца; когда и тихая погода бывает, ожидает искушения до последнего издыхания.
5. Такой познает, что в этой жизни отнюдь ничего нет неизменного, но все проходит, потому он и нимало не заботится о чем-либо земном, но предоставляет все Богу, ибо Он печется о нас.

WITHOUT PATIENCE, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND REST

1. Patience tends to mortify the despair that mortifies the soul. It teaches the soul to comfort itself and not lose heart from the multitude of abuse and sorrow.
2. In mental battle it is impossible to find a place where it would not be; even though someone has gone through the whole creation, but wherever he goes, everywhere he will meet with abuse. And nowhere is there a place without trials, therefore without patience it is impossible to find peace.
3. God is close to those who want to endure temptation for His sake and do not want to leave virtue out of carelessness because of sorrow, but prefer the law of God, and in the patience of what befalls them, rejoice in the hope of salvation.
4. When he meets a storm, he endures with joy, waiting for the end; when the weather is calm, it awaits temptation until its last gasp.
5. Such one learns that in this life there is by no means anything unchanging, but everything passes, therefore he does not care about anything earthly, but leaves everything to God, for He cares about us.
