ПОЧЕМУ ГРЕШНИКИ БЛАГОДЕНСТВУЮТ
Воспел святой пророк Давид: Многи скорби праведным и от всех их избавит я Господь.
Как это верно! Всем истинно служащим Господу, праведным правдою Искупителя, а не своею падшею и ложною, попускается много скорбей; но все эти скорби рассыпаются сами собою; ни одна из них не может сокрушить раба Божия: они воспитывают, очищают, усовершают его.
О скорбях грешников, живущих на земле для земных наслаждений и для земного преуспеяния, Пророк не сказал ни слова.
Скорби им не попускаются. К чему им скорби? они не понесут их с благодарением, а только ропотом, унынием, хулою на Бога, отчаянием умножат грехи свои. Господь предоставляет им пользоваться земными благами до самой кончины, чтоб они опомнились хотя по причине благоденствия своего.
Он посылает скорби только тем грешникам, в которых предвидит обращение, которые в книге живота, по предведению Божию, уже внесены в число праведников, оправданных правдою Искупителя. Грешников намеренных и произвольных, в которых нет залога к исправлению и покаянию, Господь не признает достойными скорбей, как не принявших учения Христова, не оказавших никакого усердия последовать Христу, вступивших на путь неправды не по увлечению и не по неведению.

The holy prophet David sang: Many are the sorrows of the righteous, and the Lord will deliver them out of them all.
How true! All those who truly serve the Lord, the righteous righteousness of the Redeemer, and not their own fallen and false, are tolerated by many sorrows; but all these sorrows crumble by themselves; none of them can crush the servant of God: they educate, purify, perfect him.
The Prophet did not say a word about the sorrows of sinners who live on earth for earthly pleasures and for earthly prosperity.
Sorrows are not allowed to them. Why should they grieve? they will not bear them with thanksgiving, but only with murmurings, despondency, blasphemy against God, despair will multiply their sins. The Lord grants them the use of earthly blessings until the very end, so that they come to their senses, although because of their prosperity.
He sends sorrows only to those sinners in whom he foresees conversion, who in the book of the belly, according to the foreknowledge of God, have already been included among the righteous, justified by the righteousness of the Redeemer. The Lord does not recognize deliberate and arbitrary sinners in whom there is no guarantee for correction and repentance as worthy of sorrow, as those who did not accept the teachings of Christ, who did not show any zeal to follow Christ, who entered the path of unrighteousness not out of enthusiasm and not out of ignorance.
