Я долго думал над тем, с чего начать свою серию постов о том, какой была моя поездка в Соединённые Штаты Америки в этот раз. И тут в моей памяти всплыл самый важный вывод, который я сделал в последний день: народ этой страны никогда не получит то, что есть у нас. Знаете, что это?
Россия и США очень похожи – и тут и там живут десятки народов со своими религиями, языками и устоями. Однако за всё время существования наших государств принцип единения у нас сложился совершенно разный. Как сказал один мой знакомый: «Штаты – это большая коммунальная квартира, где люди вроде бы живут вместе, но в то же время отдельно». Они очень хотят быть единой нацией, единым народом, но их внутренние противоречия создают между ними огромную пропасть вызывающую массу сложностей. В России же, включая даже некоторые бывшие советские республики, несмотря на все разногласия, существует некое единение. Мы можем не любить друг друга, но мы считаем себя одним народом с общей судьбой, и именно это позволяет нам не терять в душе любовь к родине. Вот, скажем, начнись в России какой-то конфликт за время моего отсутствия, и я уверен, что тысячи русских отправились бы домой защищать свою родину, не потому что я верю в людей, а потому что я бы сам так сделал. Как рассказал мне всё тот же знакомый, на своём примере, когда не так давно начался конфликт с Нагорным Карабахом, угрожавший превратиться в полноценную кровавую войну, многие армяне отправились на свою родину. Не умея стрелять, не умея воевать, они были готовы положить свою жизнь, но не допустить уничтожения собственного дома. А что будут делать американцы в подобной ситуации, находясь где-то далеко от дома? Они предпочтут остаться в комфорте, оправдывая это своим неумением держать в руках оружие, или же решатся отправиться защищать соседний дом со своим родным штатом? Я, почему-то, уверен, что ответ более чем очевиден. В этом-то и наше отличие.

I thought for a long time about where to start my series of posts about what my trip to the United States of America was like this time. And then the most important conclusion that I made on the last day surfaced in my memory: the people of this country will never receive what we have. Do you know what this is?

However, during the entire existence of our states, the principle of unity has developed completely differently. As one friend of mine said: "The States is a large communal apartment where people seem to live together, but at the same time separately." They really want to be a single nation, a single people, but their internal contradictions create a huge gap between them, causing a lot of difficulties. In Russia, including even some of the former Soviet republics, despite all the differences, there is a certain unity. We may not love each other, but we consider ourselves one people with a common destiny, and this is what allows us not to lose love for our homeland in our souls. For example, if a conflict broke out in Russia during my absence, I am sure that thousands of Russians would go home to defend their homeland, not because I believe in people, but because I would have done it myself. As the same friend told me, by his own example, when not so long ago the conflict with Nagorno-Karabakh began, which threatened to turn into a full-fledged bloody war, many Armenians went to their homeland. Not knowing how to shoot, not knowing how to fight, they were ready to lay down their lives, but not to allow the destruction of their own home. And what will the Americans do in such a situation, being somewhere far from home? Will they prefer to stay in comfort, justifying this by their inability to hold weapons in their hands, or will they decide to go to defend a neighboring house with their home state? For some reason, I am sure that the answer is more than obvious. This is our difference.
