Завтра на Бали наступает Новый Год, а по пустынным улицам острова будут бродить демоны.
"Ниепи". Он же - день тишины. Он же день тишины, голодания и медитаций.
В этот день нельзя выходить из дома, нельзя слушать музыку, нельзя включать свет и нельзя разговаривать. В этот день на Бали не работает ничего. Даже аэропорт закрывается на сутки - эта дата пустует в листе продаж у авиакомпаний. И, вроде как обещали, на всём острове то ли выключат интернет, то ли заблокируют соцсети.
И так как свет включать нельзя, то завтра ночью должно быть шикарное звёздное небо. Тёмное и тихое.

Зачем и почему?
Потому что местные верят, что когда-то давно, на острове правили демоны и потому извергались вулканы, бушевали разрушительные цунами, происходили наводнения и сходили селевые потоки. Но потом люди объединились и смогли изгнать демонов в один из монастырей острова и запереть их там.
Но за год демоны успевают набраться сил и раз в году могут выбраться из заточения в храме, чтобы опять начать чинить людям горе.
Но люди придумали как обмануть демонов:
В этот день никто не выходит на улицу, прячется, молчит и не включает свет. Тогда демоны ходят по пустынным улицам и пляжам, летают над безмолвным и тёмным островом...и думают, что остров вымер, обезлюдел и совсем пуст, а значит им нечего делать на этом острове и они возвращаются в свой храм.
Поэтому этот день именно такой - день тишины.

Этот день должен быть полностью посвящен рефлексии и самосозерцанию, тишине и медитациям. В этот день каждый должен остаться сам с собой. Такая 1 дневная мини-випассана, прошитая в балийской культуре.

В общем...с наступающим 1940-м годом всех :)

But people figured out how to trick the demons:
On this day, no one goes outside, hides, is silent and does not turn on the light. Then the demons walk along deserted streets and beaches, fly over a silent and dark island ... and think that the island is extinct, depopulated and completely empty, which means they have nothing to do on this island and they return to their temple.
Therefore, this day is just that - the day of silence.

This day should be fully devoted to reflection and self-contemplation, silence and meditation. On this day, everyone should stay with himself. Such a 1-day mini-vipassana, stitched in Balinese culture.
