20го февраля 1938 года Адольф Гитлер выступил с речью в рейхстаге, которая также транслировалась на всю Австрию.
Он объявил австрийских нацистов, как преследуемое меньшинство:
"intolerable for a self-conscious world power to know that at its side are co-racials who are subjected to continuous suffering because of their sympathy and unity with the whole German race and ideology."
После выступления, нацисты всей Австрии вышли на улицу с криками "Зиг хайль!" и "Хайль Гитлер!"
