В народном календаре: Александров день, в честь двух святых мучеников Александров, память которых отмечается в этот день вместе с памятью Агапия и еще пяти мучеников, пострадавших за веру в 4 веке.
А в истории события развивались так: в 1462 Иван III стал правителем Великого княжества Московского, в 1709 День рождения саксонского фарфора, в 1714 Петром I издан Указ «О должности фискалов», где определены полномочия фискалов, процессуальные средства их деятельности, в 1776 князь Петр Урусов получил правительственную привилегию, подписанную императрицей Екатериной II, «на открытие актерской труппы» и на «содержание спектаклей, маскарадов, балов и прочих увеселений» сроком на десять лет - день основания Большого театра в Москве, в 1797 запатентована первая стиральная машина, в 1819 началась перестройка Дворцовой площади по проекту К. И. Росси, в 1857 в Санкт-Петербурге открыта первая в России женская гимназия, в 1910 в Марселе поднялся в воздух первый в мире гидроплан, в 1923 Александр Грин закончил роман «Блистающий мир», в 1930 города Константинополь и Ангора получили новые турецкие названия — Стамбул и Анкара, в 1940 состоялся первый полёт опытного истребителя И-301 ЛаГГ-1, в 1944 наши войска освободили от фашистов город Николаев, в 1991 в день открытия III внеочередного Съезда народных депутатов РСФСР по приказу Михаила Горбачева в Москву были введены войска, дабы «оградить» консервативных депутатов от «морального террора» демонстрантов, а в 1996 Фил Коллинз объявил о начале сольной карьеры и вышел из состава группы Genesis.
