Новый год к нам мчится, и ёлочка уже зажглась! И варятся холодцы, и заботливые хозяйки строгают первые салаты (вот селёдку под шубой, например, лучше накануне сделать, чтобы как следует пропиталась), ставят тесто и маринуют мясо-рыбу. Завтра, уже завтра волшебная ночь, наполненная чудесами, накроет этот мир. А пока, в праздниках, следующие события: День образования СССР, День вопросов без ответов и День заворачивания подарков у чудиков (мы-то часть уже и раздарили).
В народном календаре: Данилов день, в честь святых Даниила, Анания, Азария и Мисаила. «Данила декабрь торопит», «В Данилов день святым духом и ладаном запахло», - говорили люди о приближающихся праздниках. Считалось, что если на Данила на деревьях появится иней, то Святки будут тёплыми.
История выделила для предпоследнего дня года следующие события: в 1658 в деревне Валиесари близ Нарвы между Швецией и Россией было заключено перемирие, завершившее русско-шведскую войну 1656-1658 гг., в 1796 в Петербурге прошли торжественные похороны императрицы Екатерины II и императора Петра III (прах последнего был перенесён из Зимнего) в Петропавловском соборе, в 1806 Турция объявила войну России, а Россия заняла Баку, в 1916 года в Петербурге был зверски убит выходец из крестьян, друг семьи последнего российского императора Николая II Григорий Распутин, в 1922 образован Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, в 1927 русский химик Сергей Лебедев первым в мире разработал способ получения синтетического каучука, в 1941 от фашистов освобождены города Керчь , Феодосия, Калуга, в 1943 состоялся первый публичный концерт Марка Бернеса в Свердловском Доме офицеров, в 1984 головная «Щука-Б», К-284, вступила в строй Тихоокеанского флота ВМФ СССР, а в 1995 установлены Почётные звания Российской Федерации.
Родились в этот день: писатель Редьярд Киплинг, писатель и поэт Даниил Хармс, актёр и режиссёр Робер Оссейн, один из пионеров рок-н-ролла Бо Диддли, актёр и режиссёр Алексей Локтев, Джефф Линн и Алексей Мурашов (Секрет).
