Учитель наш Баал Шем-Тов родился у отца, арав ацадика р. Элиезера, и матери, арабонис ацидконис марас Соро, в понедельник 18 Элула 5458 года, в поселке Окуп.
История рождения и детства БеШТа подробно изложены в книге "Сейфер аТелдейс". Здесь мы приведем лишь обнаруженную в последние годы и напечатанную в сборнике "Ягдил Тейро" короткую записку Алтер ребе, повествующую о детстве БеШТа.
(В этой записке есть многочисленные касающиеся БеШТа детали, отличающиеся от известных и [...][до этого]).
В отношении этой заметки пишет ребе Раяц:
- Слышал я от моего отца, святого ребе ШЛИТА, от имени старого [хасида] из Радомысля, что он был одним из тех, кто занимался предпасхальной чисткой книг и рукописей в [доме] ребе "Цемах-Цедека". И лежало у него [у ребе] в ящике множество рукописей, [отдельных] листов и писем, а [среди них] был один длинный четл, написанный рукой Алтер ребе. И вот, что было написано в нем, из того, что я помню:
- Есть спор между рабби Элиезером и хахомим по поводу Авроома, отца нашего, [...]: один полагает, что в трехлетнем возрасте узнал Авроом своего Творца, а другой полагает - в сорокавосьмилетнем возрасте. А в отношении БеШТа все признают, что он узнал [своего Творца] в возрасте трех лет.
- Отцу его, рабби Элиезеру, было сто лет, а матери его, Соре - 90. Однажды раскрыли ему [рабби Элиезеру] во сне, что он должен освятить себя, потому что у него родится сын, который осветит [всю общину] Израиля. И освятил он себя, и родился БеШТ. И родился не таким, как обычные дети. В возрасте трех месяцев он ходил и разговаривал.
- Когда ему было полтора года, отец его рабби Элиезер умер, а перед уходом сказал ему, чтобы [тот] не боялся никакого человека, но только самого Святого, благословен Он. В годовщину [смерти] отца его, рабби Элиезера, умерла мать его, Соро. И он ходил по улицам с посохом в руке, а горожане содержали его. И он не боялся ничего, ходил в лес и т.д.
- Ночь, когда ему исполнилось три года, была ночью темной, и лил проливной дождь. Взял он посох и пошел в лес. Сказали ему люди: "Как ты пойдешь такой темной ночью?!" - "Я ничего не боюсь, кроме самого Святого, благословен Он", - ответил он.

- До восемнадцати лет учился с ним Ахайе аШилейни, а после этого удостоился он быть учеником Мошиаха. Когда ему было тринадцать лет, научил его [Ахайе аШилейни] всем Именам и Эпитетам [Все-вышнего], кроме одного Имени, которому не научил его. И спросил БеШТ, почему, - и ответил ему, что это Имя также и он не знает, а отдано оно в руки СаМа, поскольку [тот] не хотел он разрушать Храм, пока не отдали ему в залог это Имя, ибо от Имени этого зависит Освобождение. И начал он заниматься тем, чтобы вывести это Имя, и сказали ему свыше: "Многие пытались [сделать] это, и пострадали". И привел он СаМа. И сказал СаМ: "'Вонючая капля'! До сего [дня] был я в этом мире лишь дважды: во время разрушения первого Храма и [во время разрушения] второго, как посмел ты привести меня?!" - Ответил [БеШТ]: "Я не боюсь ничего, кроме самого Святого, благословен Он", - и вывел поглощенное [Имя]...
В конце записки Алтер ребе добавил: "Все это я наяву удостоился услышать от БеШТа".
И добавляет ребе Раяц:
- Старый [хасид] из Радомысля рассказал, что хотел переписать это, и уже приготовил бумагу и карандаш, как вошел рабби Иеудо-Лейб (сын [ребе] "Цемах-Цедек") и сказал им, чтобы не делал этого, поскольку переписал уже однажды [эту записку] рабби Иллель из Парича, и она [переписанное] сгорела у него вместе с несколькими его собственными рукописями. "И также папа (ребе "Цемах-Цедек") будет недоволен этим", - и поэтому он воздержался от того, чтобы переписать [записку].

Baal Shem Tov's birthday.
Our teacher Baal Shem Tov was born to his father, arav acatsadika p. Eliezer, and mother, arabonis acididonis maras Soro, on Monday 18 Elul 5458, in the village of Okup.
The history of BeShT’s birth and childhood is described in detail in the book “Seyfer ateldeys”. Here we give only a short note by Alter Rebbe, discovered in recent years and published in the collection “Yagdil Teyro,” which tells about BeShT’s childhood.
(In this note, there are numerous details concerning the BEST that differ from the known and [...] [before this]).
Regarding this note, Rabbi Rajac writes:
- I heard from my father, the holy Rebbe SHLITA, on behalf of the old [Hasid] from Radomysl that he was one of those who was engaged in the pre-Easter cleaning of books and manuscripts in the [house] Rebbe "Tsemah-Zedek." And he [in the Rebbe] had in his box a lot of manuscripts, [individual] sheets and letters, and [among them] there was one long chelle, written by Alter Rebbe. And here is what was written in it, from what I remember:
- There is a dispute between Rabbi Eliezer and Hahomim over Avroom, our father, [...]: one believes that at the age of three Avroom recognized his Creator, and the other believes at the age of forty-eight. And with regard to BeST, everyone recognizes that he recognized [his Creator] at the age of three.
“His father, Rabbi Eliezer, was one hundred years old, and his mother, Sora, was 90. Once [Rabbi Eliezer] was revealed to him in a dream that he should consecrate himself because he would have a son who would illuminate [the whole community] of Israel. And he consecrated himself, and BeST was born. And he was born not like ordinary children. At the age of three months, he walked and talked.
- When he was one and a half years old, his father, Rabbi Eliezer, died, and before leaving he told him that [he] should not be afraid of any person, but only the Holy One, blessed be He. On the anniversary of the death of his father, Rabbi Eliezer, his mother, Soro, died. And he walked the streets with a staff in his hand, and the townspeople kept him. And he was not afraid of anything, went to the forest, etc.
- The night when he was three years old was dark at night, and heavy rain was pouring. He took the staff and went into the forest. People told him: "How will you go on such a dark night ?!" “I’m not afraid of anything except the Holy One; blessed is He,” he answered.

- Until the age of eighteen, Achaea Shileini studied with him, and after that he was honored to be a student of Moshiach. When he was thirteen years old, he taught him [Achaea Shileini] all the Names and Epithets of [All-High], except for one Name that he did not teach him. And BeshT asked why, - and answered him that this Name also he did not know, but it was given into the hands of SaM, because [he] did not want to destroy the Temple until they pledged this Name to him, for from this Name Liberation depends. And he began to deduce this Name, and they said to him from above: "Many tried to [do] it, and suffered." And he brought SaMa. And SaM said: "'Smelly drop'! Until this [day] I have been in this world only twice: during the destruction of the first Temple and [during the destruction] of the second, how dare you bring me ?!" - Answered [BeST]: “I’m not afraid of anything but the Holy One, blessed is He,” and deduced the absorbed [Name] ...
At the end of the note, Alter Rebbe added: “I was rewarded with hearing all this from BeShT in reality.”
And he adds to Rabbi Rajac:
- The old [Hasid] from Radomysl said that he wanted to rewrite it, and had already prepared paper and a pencil, as Rabbi Yehudo-Leib (son of [Rebbe] "Tsemah-Tsedek") entered and told them not to do this, since he had already rewritten once [this note] Rabbi Illell of Parich, and it [rewritten] burned out with him along with several of his own manuscripts. "And also the pope (the Rebbe" Tsemah-Tsedek ") will be dissatisfied with this," and therefore he refrained from rewriting [the note].
