Незадолго до своей мученической кончины Николай Леонов выступил с открытым обращением:
«Дорогие братья и сёстры во Христе!
Сейчас распространяются слухи о возможных будущих притеснениях и гонениях Святой нашей Матери Церкви на земле украинской. Спешу поделиться с Вами своими размышлениями по данному поводу. Братья и сёстры, кто или что сможет отлучить нас от любви Христовой, кто сможет вырвать нас из объятий Отчих? Гонения ли? Раскольники ли? Еретики ли? Или власть имущии? Нет, дорогие, нет такой силы на небе и на земле, которая смогла бы лишить нас Любви Христовой. Всем тем, кто возвысит свой голос против народа Божьего, всем тем, кто обострит свои зубы на Тело Христово, всем тем, кто уже злорадствует, помышляя в своих сердцах мерзкие планы, хотелось бы сказать: О безумные! Заберите наши храмы - и нас примут леса, которые под сенью своей скроют наследников Царствия Небесного. Заберите наши соборы - и жалкие хлева превратятся в царские чертоги, в которых верные будут пребывать в единении с Возлюбленным. Заберите наши алтари - и архиерейские груди станут святыми жертвенниками для Бескровной Жертвы. Заберите священные Сосуды - и длани пресвитеров будут вместилещем драгоценной Крови Спасителя. Заберите наши святыни - и они будут судить вас. Заберите священные облачения - и наша нагота воссияет золотом Небесного Иерусалима. Заберите и сами жизни наши - и исполнится желание Невесты (Церкви): Она встретит Возлюбленного (Христа) и будет царствовать с Ним.
Безумные, вы забыли, что подняли руки на Земное Небо. Православная Церковь Христова Вечна! Только ради Неё и для Неё была сотворена вселенная. Поднять руку на Церковь Мать значит поднять руку на Творца всего видимого и невидимого. Тот, Кто по Своей Любви освятил землю пролитой Собственной Кровью, Тот, Кто сотворил всё одушевлённое и неодушевлённое, Тот, Кто есть Начало и Конец, Альфа и Омега,(Откровение 21:6) Начальник наших жизней - Он основатель Церкви! Он - Глава Церкви! Он и есть Сама Церковь! И Он обещал быть с Ней до скончания века (Мф. 28:20)! Если даже весь мир, вся вселенная, все дышащее и недышащее, все власти земные и даже все силы преисподней, разом восстанут на Тело Христово - Церковь, то и тогда Она останется незыблемой по обещанию Спасителя: "Я создам Церковь Мою, и врата ада не одолеют ее" (Мф. 16:18)"».
«Этот чудный человек, который горел чувством справедливости и любовью к Церкви, больше не с нами. Он ушел воином воинствующей Церкви. Его расстреляли в той самой машине "Скорой помощи" в Донецке, что перевозила раненых. Парень погиб. Мечтал стать монахом и положить свою жизнь за Христа», - заключил архимандрит Алипий.

Now rumors are circulating about possible future oppression and persecution of our Holy Mother Church in Ukrainian land. I hasten to share with you my thoughts on this matter. Brothers and sisters, who or what can excommunicate us from the love of Christ, who can tear us out of the arms of the Fathers? Is it persecution? Are schismatics? Are heretics? Or the powers that be? No, dear ones, there is no such power in heaven and on earth that could deprive us of the Love of Christ. To all those who will raise their voice against the people of God, to all those who sharpen their teeth on the Body of Christ, to all those who are already gloating, thinking in their hearts vile plans, I would like to say: O insane! Take our temples - and we will be accepted by forests, which under their shadow will hide the heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven. Take away our cathedrals - and miserable stalls will turn into royal houses, in which the faithful will remain in unity with the Beloved. Take our altars - and the bishops' breasts will become holy altars for the Bloodless Sacrifice. Take away the sacred vessels - and the hands of the elders will be the storehouse of the Savior's precious Blood. Take our shrines and they will judge you. Take the sacred vestments - and our nakedness will shine with the gold of Heavenly Jerusalem. Take our lives themselves too - and the desire of the Bride (Church) will be fulfilled: She will meet the Beloved (Christ) and will reign with Him.
Crazy, you forgot that you raised your hands to the Earthly Sky. The Orthodox Church of Christ is Eternal! Only for Her and for Her was the universe created. Raising a hand on the Church Mother means raising a hand on the Creator of all that is visible and invisible. He who, by His Love, sanctified the earth with His own Blood shed, He Who created all the animate and inanimate, He who is the Beginning and the End, Alpha and Omega, (Revelation 21: 6) The head of our lives - He is the founder of the Church! He is the Head of the Church! He is the Church itself! And He promised to be with Her until the end of the age (Matt. 28:20)! If even the whole world, the whole universe, all breathing and not breathing, all the powers of the earth and even all the forces of the underworld, rise to the Church of Christ at once, then She will remain unshakable by the promise of the Savior: "I will create My Church, and the gates of hell will not they will overcome her "(Matthew 16:18)."
“This wonderful man, who was burning with a sense of justice and love for the Church, is no longer with us. He left as a warrior of a militant Church. He was shot in the same ambulance in Donetsk that transported the wounded. The guy died. He dreamed of becoming a monk and laying down his life for Christ, ”concluded Archimandrite Alipiy.
